I think most of the crits have already touched upon everything really well. I REALLY like the design, muscle skeleton whatsit thingy suits are fekkin awesome no matter what they're doing (even hanging on the washing line...). I like all the details on the armour, plenty of it and well done. I do agee with the upper body being off. I think it should be twisted to his right so that the other arm and shoulder isn't completely in our sight. Doing this would enable you to do a lot more detailing on the suit as it would give you a perspective in which to show the countours of the muscular build and such. Either that or turn it more to his left so it is as if he has just stopped from a run and is turning to aim at someone chasing him with his gun if you see what I mean. I think as the first guy said, the lower body is very dynamic while the upper is very static. When planning try to draw in curved flowing lines to get the direction the movement is going in, this will add so much more life and dynamism that it will also increase the excitement of the piece too. is right about the flip technique, your brain gets used to seeing things from a certain perspective and so compensates for inaccuracy. It does this for anything, imagine having your bedroom mirrored, I know I wouldn't be able to find anything or would reach for something on the wrong side of me as I'm used to things being in certain places meaning your brain doesn't think about it. It can be done in Photoshop using the option in Image and rotate canvas, and you can do it on paper by doing what suggested or by using a lightbox. Do this flipping technique every 10 or 15 minutes, after an hour or 2 stop, take a break for 30 mins then come back. It's amazing how different things will look and how much more accurate they will be once completed as your brain is having to work instead of putting you in autopilot. Anyways, I'm sure you've already heard all this in previous comments so I will end with saying: Great work, I look forward to seeing more! I apologise for a seriously long comment, most of which is probably not needed, but my PC is dead, Rochelle is using my good laptop and i'm stuck with the half dead Acer that's falling apart

The design is great, the anatomy is a little lacking.

Hmmm, contrar to your first comment recieved on this piece, I like the upper part. It's the lower portion needing tweaking. The lower portion seems a bit outta place: too much action leading to a somewhat weird perspective. *ducks from knives* I'd suggest making the legs face the front just a bit.

So that's what you were talking about. lol excuse my brain, which as you know, is prone to crashing. Well, i guess the armor could use a theme. Seems a bit, um, disconnected? There should be a common style or pattern, or theme or something that connects the armor pieces to each other. You know, make em all look sci-fi, or kinda magical, or whatever suits your fancy.

I dunno. Maybe a mix of sci fi and retro stuff? like maybe making the parts where armor pieces meet heirogyphs or cuneiform or something. Areas with lotsa tiny details contrasted by mostly blank areas?

badass chr man...only suggestion i have is one...flip technique,... try holdin your pic up to an bright light, and fliped, so the backside is facing you, this is an powerful technique that allows you to easily see if there are any distortions, works like an charm....lastly id add more curvy lines to the contour to accent the muscle like forms

The leg positioning and movement there in is pretty rad but the upper body and torso doesn't really seem to match it. The upper body just doesn't have the same movement that the lower body seems to be portraying.

The detail on the suit itself is really nice though. Has a nice organic/muscular look to it as well as the whole carapace outer shell look.

any suggestions for the torso?

aydoo In reply to Clone-Trooper [2007-11-14 07:26:25 +0000 UTC]

Looking at it there are two possible things he could be doing. Moving backwards and stopping/dynamically sliding or he was moving forward and stopped/dynamic-ly slid.

So depending on which direction he is moving Id quarter turn the torso a bit. ATM he's just facing forward on his upper body and his legs indicate that his midsection pectoral area should be a bit turned/twisting. Could also bring his shoulders in. It'll be kinda hard to fix without just starting over on the base really.

I could just be me though. Now that I look at it again it does seem pretty balanced. I really like your lower body though.

I feels like you were starting out a design and when you got to the leg hip/leg area decided that you were going to make it more actiony than just standing there.

Oh yeah its a great start, has a lot of potential. Id suggest, on future versions before doing all the detail work draw out the pose and plan out a bit, it'll save you a bunch of heartache with these kinds of issues.
