Summer is here and things are getting pretty active behind the scenes here at Gem-Exchange Headquarters. We're excited about a lot of things and can't wait to get them started, but in the meantime we've decided to hold a small contest and one of our mods was kind enough to offer this fine fellow up above as bait...I mean a prize. So if you've been really wanting to get your first stardragon, or if you already have a few but really would like a chance to get another babe for your growing crew, this is the chance!

Unlike the typical "enter here and leave yourself to the mercy of the RNG" raffle, we've decided to make it a little bit more effort involved and in order to enter, you have to put your writing caps on and give this boy here a bio and backstory. We know how it goes sometimes...a person sees a pretty design and they go for it on impulse but when they actually get it they are like "huh...I have no idea what I'm going to do with them" and away they go into the adoptable folder that time forgot or even directly into the re-trade folder. While this may not prevent this from happening, the hopeful goal is that it will give folks entering a chance to come up with a place and purpose for their new stardragon. For example, there is a bit of stardragon lore one can find over at THIS PAGE and THIS ONE but if you have a personal story going on that you really have been itching for some sort of interstellar top ace pilot to man your mechas that is fine too! The main thing we're looking for is creativity.That said, we would likely be a bit lying if we said that an individual's activity will also likely go into the judging process. Folks who have been really active in the group or have been shown to be doing things with various designs

they have gotten (stardragons or not) are going to likely get a bit more notice. There's been a pick-up of RP activity in the chatrooms and truth be told it'd be awesome to get more folks entering and playing along with us. (oh ho you have discovered our ulterior motive and it's "come play with ussssssss") But in the matter of fairness there will be a bit of RNG to the matter where after each admin has selected their favorite entry the final three will be put into a random name generator and the winner will be selected from that.

Enough with the talking lady, how do we enter this shindig?

Alright! Lets get to the meat and potatoes of this thing!

Step One: This particular contest is for gem-exchange members only. Granted we realize there is nothing preventing someone from joining, entering, and then leaving right afterwards but we figure there should be some sort of extra bonus to folks who are members to have access to something fun and shiny once in a while.

Step Two: Down below you simply enter with the biography you have come up with this fellow. It can be as complicated or simple as you like. He can be part of the stardragon universe or he could be part of your personal story. You can use a template similar to this one or you can come up with your own to match your own preferences. In other words, turn this design into a character and in particular a character that causes us to go "oh man that is a cool character concept I'd love to see that character existing"

And thats about it really. New entries will be closed at the end of the month (June 30th) and the winner will be selected soon after.

FAQ

The design is perfect and wonderful...but I was really hoping for a girl stardragon: Stardragon owners are always free to change the gender of their design to the other of the same species so if this is the design of your dreams but you think they'd be a better fit as a lady stareater then by all means feel free to write your story as such and we're not going to hold that against you in the judging process. We won't be able to change this base design for you, but you are more than free to redraw them yourself as a lady and get any art of them as a lady.

Oooh...can I make them into a star(insert any other stardragon race) instead?: Sadly no. While its perfectly fine to change your stareater boy into a stareater girl, you cannot change your stareater boy into a starsweeper boy. So if you really have your heart set on a different stardragon race, it is likely best to just wait for another contest or for one to show up for sale.

If I do win, can I trade/sell the design later? Re-sale is not permitted as there is no money involved in this contest. That said, if you win the design is yours to do with as you wish which means that you are free to gift or trade it away. It would be nice and preferred if you didn't enter this contest with the main purpose of simply turning around and trading it away for a different design that you really did want but rather let the folks who are hopefully entering cause they genuinely want the design to use have a chance. But in the end if you win the design it is yours to trade/gift/bury/use as you deem fit.

I don't know much about the stardragon world and am scared I'll get something wrong and disqualify myself: If at any point you really would like to know more about the default stardragon setting, please feel more than free to ask any of the mods or admins or even ask questions down below. But you are more than free to give your entry a bio or backstory that has nothing to do with the stardragon world as well. And trust us, we're a very mellow bunch. You could make a stardragon equivalent of Sailor Moon and odds are it could somehow work.

Can I do art with my entry?: You can, but please be cautious. One of the reasons we chose to do a writing focused contest is because we know not everyone is tip-top art gurus. And also because we know no matter what, there is going to only be one winner and many others who haven't and that not winning sucks. But it also DOUBLE SUCKS if you went and did a bunch of art and put a ton of time and personal investment into trying and then lose. While we may consider a draw-to-adopt contest in the future, this one is meant to be just enough effort to get a person thinking but not so much that they feel they wasted their week. You are free to draw art if you really think it will enhance your story and entry...but please only do so if you feel comfortable taking the chance that you still may lose.

Can I enter more than once?: For this contest we have decided to only have it be one entry per person.

Can I enter for a friend?: While we love the idea of folks gifting for their friends, in this case we recommend only entering if it is a stardragon -you- want. And it is best to let your friend enter for themselves.

Can I enter -with- a friend (collab)?: We won't stop you but we would recommend caution since sharing a design always has its risks. By all means if your entry refers to a friends' character because you plan to have them interacting with your friends character backstory-wise, go for it! But if it is two people wanting to share the same design...this may not be the best contest to do that in.

Ahhh! I entered but then I got THE BEST idea afterwards! ;A; Never fear! Until the entry window closes (Sunday, June 14th) you are free to change or re-write your entry. So if you submit something and then suddenly get hit with the biggest inspiration ever, simply reply to your first entry with your new entry and hide your original one. In the event you forget to hide your entry, we will go with whatever entry is most recent.

When does this end again? The close date for folks entering their bios is Tuesday June 30th which at that point the judging will begin and should be announced a day or so afterwards.
