Description
Note to self: Stop making it impossible to go forward with writing stories because I must flesh everything out and tweak designs to death.Dear lord these lizard-mole-rat things have gone through so many changes. I think I like their final(ish) design though.
Now how to make their intelligence-caste system work. Orz.
A few notes:
-this is an old, high-ranking (i.e, smart) tanseline (name of an individual). Old ones have more head spikes and more tail antennae. they typically live for only a hundred years or so, but can force themselves to live longer. (It's complicated.)
-Most tanselin walk somewhat hunched over on two legs but many can also walk on four.
-their tail antennae allows them the use of a rough sort of telepathy. they're born with forked tails that split as they grow older.

Are their spikes somewhat flexible, or are they like a bearded dragon's spikes?

They are somewhat flexible, but flexibility decreases with age.

I just wondered, 'cause what if they put their heads back to far and accidentally impaled themselves?

The spikes aren't hard enough to penetrate their own scales. That would be a rather idiotic design flaw.

Eh, sometimes nature fucks up, yanno?

True, but on this planet it doesn't have a lot of species to do so with. Flaws do pop up, but they're rarely nature's fault.

Only a few million. Which compared to Earth is minuscule, and I'm counting insects, pseudo-arachnids, plants, and species of bacteria as well.

Wow. That is a teeny weeny universe. On Earth, there's a billion kinds of insects alone!

Rankless, one of my many on-hold projects. Two alien races and this is one of them.
Glad you think so, they have been in development hell for so long. X.x
