Description My name is Thomas Rolfe. I am the legendary Powhathan princess Pocahontas’, also known as Rebecca Rolfe’s son.
When I first arrived in Virginia after leaving England, I learned more of my mother’s people and I find myself lost between two worlds, one of my father’s and one of my mother’s…
But here in the depth of the forest of my mother’s homeland, I hear her song upon the wind and I find myself curious.
Who am I?
My mother’s voice carries me over and as I listen, I learn.

You think you own whatever land you land on
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know ev'ry rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name

You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But, if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew

The forest calls to my soul and I find my mother’s people. I thought they would flinch at me, because I am a half and half, but to my surprise, they opened their arms and welcomed me.
They told me of my mother tale, of her childhood and her love of exploring. The more I learned of my mother, the more I learned about myself. Her voice, a distant memories still sing in my heart and my feet traced every path she took in the forest that my grandfather was a king of once long time ago.
Upon the wind, I hear her, and her mother and her mother before that. Generations of proud women’s spirits calling to me, welcoming me in their embraces of the wind.
I hear, feel, see, touch and taste for the first time in my life of those that my mother calls home.

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sun-sweet berries of the earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And, for once, never wonder what they're worth

As I lived along my mother’s people, I became one of them. Once my fair tan skin of the London air became dark under the sun of the Teakomakah, the land of Virginia, my eyes hardened with wisdom and the wilderness of the forest. I adorned the feathers of my grandfather and lead my people in prosper and peace between both of my parents people.
I could not deny my father’s heritage in me; I could not deny my mother’s either. I embraced both and held with pride of who I am. I hear my mother’s song upon the wind every time I stand on the lone cliff that overlook the entire land of Virginia.

The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or let the eagle tell you where he's been?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

I thank God for who I am, I am Thomas Rolfe, the son of John Rolfe and Rebecca Pocahontas Rolfe. I am both of the fair skinned people of my father’s and the forest people of my mother’s. In my heart, I carry both world and serve as a bridge between both worlds.
From the fruit of my loins, I am the father of many Americans and I am the son of the true daughter of the American soil.
From my soul, I give my mother’s song to all those who hear her upon the wind.

How high does the sycamore grow?
If you cut it down, then you'll never know

And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
For, whether we are white or copper-skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountain
We need to paint with all the colors of the wind

You can own the earth, and, still
All you'll own is earth until
You can paint with all the colors of the wind

I am the Color of the Wind.

FINISHED! Whew, that was actually a very spontaenous picture I've done, just upon a whim and even the commentary of Thomas Rolfe here too. I hope you all enjoyed it. I really, really liked the result. The wind and the leaves took me only a little bit of time and I loved it.
