Let this be known this is why I hate my scanner.... see the lines? ... it was worse without the scan of the greyscale version I did to back it up and make it look kinda better....it still makes me cry on the screen when in RL it's like ... millions times better...
ANYWAYS.
Trying new technique. Been staring at a computer too long and realized that the failings of my damn scanner is what turned me to trying to hard on digital in the first place. I missed my pencils- and working with pastels... and wanted to try color.
This turned out a hellva lot better than I thought it would going into it... and ... for all that there's a 'mistake' on it ( the watercolor wash extended heavier into the wolf than I thought it would ) this ... yeah... Leaps and Bounds. <3 <3

Ravens fly before the edge of a storm, calling out in their harsh voices a warning to others of the winds to come. A wolf joins the chorus and gives it credence, his nose scenting what his eyes can not see: that there is a hue of green to the sky which means that the storm likely will spawn terrible winds. That these winds will tear apart earth and sky.

My wife and I fell in love with this piece at the MFF Art Show this year. I admire the complex shading in the wolf's mane and the manner in which the raven's feathers are mirrored in the wolf's coat.
We will cherish this piece and give it a prominent place in our home. Thank you,

It still surpises me because this was just an experiment and has some major mess ups... but came out so well... so thank you! I didn't think I could do that kind of detail.. XD

Actually it works more against the computer.... who then will start kicking at the scanner... and eventually with much cursing on both me and my computer's end.. the scanner gets it's ass together and does what I ask it...
It's like an older person who forgets what they're doing in the middle of a task and takes a nap... Sometimes that's what happens...
...... it's what I get to look forward to as I get older.. XD... I'm sure if someone threatened to drop a 4 ton rock on me I'd start movin' .. XD

XD I have gentics on my side of things... I'm hard of hearing already thanks to a lot of ear infections when I was little... XD I have to partially read-lips for people that have a bass tone- else if I can't see their face.. I have no idea what they said XD .... I'll be blind when I'm 50 ( go genes go!)...>.>.. old people need lovin'. They've been around for about the lengh of time it takes for a TREE to grow...
I Can't fault my scanner though- it's now six years old and lived through my kid standing on it a number of times, multiple moving situations- intense cold and heat- and another permant marker situation with the child.. XD .... The computer was in the house with a long haired manx, got a virus at one point.. recovered ... and I think it has another one ( firefox keeps crashing on me) ... but she's also ... five? years old.. XD ....... it just bothers that since their both older... neither one is compatiable with anything else.... and so the scanner stays with the desktop and my laptop doesn't even have the ablity to use it.. ;_; ...

I cheated- I used to have a labador and learned a lot of dogs/ expression/ motion from her. After she passed- pictures. lots of pictures- and now? Now I have a coyote skull.. >.>;

It also depends on what kind of style you want to draw wolves in. Realistic/ semi/ cartoony...

practice, practice, practice. Cats are kinda close to dogs, but aren't. Bodies are placed differnt. But you can still play with a cat's paw and see howt he bones are. I used to spend hours playing with my dog's paws- until she got peeved at me.. XD ( fun little note! Labador paws are webbed!)You can see how the fur goes.
RL is better than anything else.
XD I wish I had some of my OLD OLD stuff to show you where I came from. But this gallery mostly only has things from college onwards. There's some highschool stuff in it... not much. >.O;; and now don't mind me while I'm creeped out by realizing that I started college ten years ago.. O.o;

Between this version and the black and white version, I like this one better. I love the intensity of the colours in this one because they really add to the darkness and the tone of the piece. With the colours, the mood is really strong and the feeling of the storm resonates strongly. Great job.
