Its all about layers, u have to use say a 2B over a 4B, I think pen would be to dark ^^
if u want to be more popular, u have to just stick to what u are doing, and the popularity would come, give it time, like it took me near a year for a drawing to recieve 50 faves... and now if i did any drawing, it would get 50 faves in 3 hours...

You're right, I have a 9B pencil and I use it sometimes but it's hard to erase mistakes. It might be that my scanner is pretty lousy as it reflects any dark areas, rendering it lighter than the original

You're so funny =] i wish to never had posted this drawing because it is incomplete. I posted this drawing about 2 months ago and quit DA and stopped drawing this portrait. But, thanks for your concern... i think i will finish this drawing and give life to my account.. you're words of encouragement means a whole lot and it's people like you that keeps me coming back to DA.
I use mechanical pencil for some of the hair. i try not to use my mechanical pencil sparingly though. keep in mind that a sharpen wooden pencil works wonder (most of the time) haha

Really, your dedication to the portrait is wonderful. The portrait, itself, is wonderful, but I believe your artistic talent and motivation is what shines through.

This this the regular pencil that I use [link] its name brand is Staedtler, and I will never trade in this pencil for any other brands. Also the mechanical pencil that I use is also the same manufacturer. You can find these at Hobbylobby, and at a premium but it's worth it since the lead is at a superior quality and stays sharp much longer.

Well, they sell Staedtler pencils at Office Depot.. a pack of 10 comes in various hardness.. they also sell mechanical pencils by staedtler but although the pencil design is good, it is ineffective withough staedtler pencil leads which you can only find online...
