Loki is a mutt, but dane is one of the common guesses. I once happened to see him walking beside a black great dane at a dog park and was intrigued by the similarities, though Loki is probably a foot shorter.
By the way, I noticed that your a George R.R. Martin fan. Oh how I wish he'd finish that series! He's left me and my wife hanging to say the least. If he dies before I know what happens to Tyrion I'll be very bitter, indeed.
