Rumiko Takahashi's "Ranma 1/2" manga and anime series were properties that really opened up for me my feelings regard to being transgendered. My brother told me about a cartoon he saw about a man who changes into a girl and the concept struck me as so exotic. I eventually saw the series and manga for myself and was enthralled. Ranma 1/2 was certainly in influential manga series. It's a pity that it hasn't aged well.
Actually, it would be nice to see a new version that retold the story with an updated perspective.
