>{EDIT}<I've changed it up a bit, thanks to ~WatchMyFeet for some pointers. I... ok, well I have to admit I haven't followed all of his pointers, but I did some little changes to the shine on his quills. Rather than removing them (which I still might decide to do), I ended up having them move slightly to better follow the head's movement. >{EDIT}<
Ok, here is a sprite that I actually did myself. I very VERY heavily used Sonic 3's moveset, but I assure you, it's NOT a paint over or anything of the sort... I may have stuck with most of the poses, but I drew these all myself (and I'm slowly chipping away at the rest of his movements). I've doubled the size here for better viewing! This is what I've been doing between working on things that I actually need to finish.
YES, I've been working on my Sight Speed project, Sonic CD is coming along well, but sometimes it's so FRUSTRATING... I mean, come on, I'm using a 3(?) year old laptop that was cheap when it was NEW to draw a 3 foot by 3 foot square hi res digital poster with a 10 year old incomplete photoshop program.
As such, I have some time/speed/lag/RAM issues. The thing takes 5 minutes to save... every time I hit CTRL+S. And almost that long to load up when I first open it.
THUS I've been doing a little bit of sprite work on the side. Been lots of fun.

Haha, I'd say "I work hard at it", but I don't have to work at it! It just comes so naturally...

Well, yeah, I will have one eventually. They take a long time to make, so it'll be a while still. I'd get them done faster, but I'm working on a lot of other pics too... I always do that...

Well, you have to draw each part of the picture, then use a program to put them together and animate them. I used photoshop, but it can only do little ones. I don't know how to make big ones, I don't have a good animater program for that.

cool! i like how the other side of his face shows a little as he turns. it doesn't look like a copy of sonic 3 at all
how can you live with such slow technology??? D:

Thanks! I worked hard on it, though I haven't been working on other sprites lately.
UGH, it's slow, I know... but I'm working around it. Now that I'm done with the background, I've been doing the robots in a separate file so it saves faster (instantly, actually), so that's been saving a lot of time.

Very fluid animation here! I can tell you started from scratch.
The only nitpick that comes to mind is how you did the lighting on the spines, similar to a previous picture I told you about (I think this one: [link] ). You shouldn't have such bright tones in central points on the spines otherwise it confuses me whether they're actually swaying away from me or not. the ones on the on the forehead and the brow are fine though, though even the one on the brow could be a bit darker and have a bit more contrast.
The animation is about as good as it can get though, it'd be awesome if you played it at a higher fps with some added frames, but I understand you're trying to make it look like the old sprite animations. Very well done though!
Also, about that issue with your computer, I've encountered the same problem with my computer as well. The best solution would be either to decrease the resolution of the file to at least wait less on the saves and processes, or try a different program altogether. Me, I switched to SAI because it was getting a bit unbearable. lol

Ah, yeah, it seems I have a bit of a habit with the highlights, don't I? Well, I'll definitely work on that, it's an easy edit (if PS will let me open it without fudging up the frames, it's a little iffy since it's such an old version), so I'll fix that up.
I can certainly speed it up a bit, and actually, I've been contemplating adding frames in between. Though, I'd like to finish my 'impatient' animation first. It's taking a bit longer, since I'm not using the same poses for the frames this time, and I wanna get it done. But it won't open the last couple days... like I was saying in my last set of (), PS is screwing up the frames. Mixing them together and making them add to each other instead of moving... Ugh. It wouldn't be an issue if I hadn't forgotten to update my PSD version after doing those last edits... I wish I'd just done the edits to the PSD. Ugh.
So, is SAI free? I sincerely doubt it... but it doesn't hurt to ask... I use Photoshop Elements 5.0, cuz we already had it and that makes it free (well, for me). I can't afford a new program like that... I wish I could though. It's a bad combo, though. I mean, my com's a cheap laptop that's old, my PS is old, and my picture is 108,000 pixels across.

Yeah don't worry about it though man, I had the same problem, it just takes a bit of analyzing to figure out where light sources go, heck even I get confused sometimes about it.
It is just a suggestion for future animations, working on the same animation after having it submitted can become tedious, and doesn't feel that rewarding. But yeah PS is kinda clumsy with animation, which is why I took a break with it for now.
Yes SAI (certain versions I think) are free, I have a free version if you want it if you have a skype account I can just transfer it to you. In my opinion it's great for computers with less ram, as long as you don't have a very high resolution w/lots of frames you're fine. I also have a Portable Version of Photoshop as well if you need it. It's almost up to date.

Wow, I do actually have a Skype account, though it's new, and I don't really know how to use it... I don't know how to find people on there, I only have a few friends so far. And I'll be honest... I haven't a clue how I got them on there.

It's pretty simple, if you send me your account name through a note on DA I can just send you a friend request. It'll automatically pop up.
