Scar sat alone at a table in the corner of the dance hall, listening uninterestedly to the music. His sisters, Lisa, Mika and Emerald, had wanted to visit a pop concert that night, but Scar was tired of having to be dragged along with them wherever they went; tonight, all he wanted was some quiet time to himself. What none of them had the heart to tell him until after they had left was that they would be away the whole weekend at Twinkle Park too, and so Scar had half-heartedly decided, out of boredom and annoyance at his siblings, to hang out in Club Rouge for the night.
The green fox sighed discontentedly as he sipped his glass of Cola. "Typical!" he muttered to himself. "Why is it that I have to be the one to suffer when the girls go out on their own?"
He grimaced as he looked over at a nearby group of badger girls who happened to be at the club as well; "As if I give a toss about all this amusement park rubbish anyway!" he added sulkily. Unlike his sisters, he wasn't too keen on Twinkle Park; he found it all rather childish, and even the more exciting rides did little to amuse him.
"Ladies and gentlemen..."
Scar snapped out of his thoughts and turned toward the stage, where the compere was addressing the crowd.
"...we are proud to announce the live performance of the Songoose Four with their latest number; To the Tune of Love."
"Oh, great!" groaned Scar, slapping a hand to his forehead. "That's all I need - first my sisters leave me with nothing to do, and now I have to put up with a live performance!"
"Introducing Carlos on guitar, with Mike on saxophone, Skip on percussion..."
Scar growled in annoyance at the word "percussion". Somehow, he told himself, this wasn't going to be a good night.
"...and the group's lead singer, Ariel!"
The crowd applauded as the four mongooses made their way onto stage, but Scar paid them no attention whatsoever. He simply sat ready to leave the hall as soon as the music began - but when it did, it wasn't the deafening thrash he had expected it to be. Instead, he was greeted by the sound of soft, calming guitar music accompanied by equally soft rhythm from the cymbals as well as a light baritone from the sax.
"Maybe this isn't so bad," he thought with relief, and sat back to enjoy the music. It was then, as he glanced at the band, that he noticed the lead singer Ariel - and the moment she started to sing, Scar was truly captivated by her beautiful voice. Forgetting to be bored and grouchy, he removed his glasses and stared upon her breathlessly.
