Believe it or not as simple as he is there was visual development for Bloo too. He started out ghosty and vague and eventually became more solid and real.Related content

Let me guess, a few went on to inspire the episode where the other kids imagine their own Bloo's, because the more and more I look at him, the more and more I'm reminded of a certain Bloo from that episode.

So like, do you guys make little comic strips to see which version fits better, then make changes and see it like that?
I mean, characters can be hard and all, especially when you want them to fit well with other characters. I just thought there would be a process to see if they fit well or not, and change them when need be. Or, do you just make the character good, then mix them up to see the results?

The taller Bloo's look so odd. But they're interesting.
I've wondered how hard it is to draw Bloo. He looks so simple to draw, but sometimes it's the most simple things that turn out to be the hardest to draw. Seeing these development sheets are getting my pretty psyched for my animation and even more so for my development and preproduction classes. I love character designing so much, but I need to work at it so much more.
I'm gonna finish looking at all these development sheets.

I like the tiny little black marker drawing the best.
The tall Bloo's at the top are particularly terrifying. Looking at them just kind of says "stranger danger!" to me.

Very interesting! I love to see character concept and development sheets. This one is particularly fun to look over - it shows how much a slight alteration to a character's design can seem to change the his visual personality entirely!

Looks like the original concept for him was a sort of security blanket come to life.

I love the coloured pencil sketches - the rest of these development sketches could have been used nicely in "Bloo's Brothers".

Very interesting concept there, that Bloo was originally conceived as being a "Security Blanket" (giving one the impression that Mac's character carries him around like Linus from the Peanuts comic strip in one of the early drafts of the Foster's concept)
