Description
Chelydra serpentina, North Carolina Museum of Natural SciencesThis is the largest common snapping turtle ever recorded. I can't recall exactly how beefy this boy is, but I seem to remember it being in the neighbourhood of 35 or 40 kg or more. He was severely injured by fishing line in the wild, and now lives in an aquarium at the museum.

He was a HUGE turtle. I didn't even think common snapping turtles could get anywhere near that big.

They're massive animals. The Alligator Snapping turtles are especially dangerous.

Yeah, I'm more used to seeing Alligator snappers reaching gigantic sizes.
