Description Since Age of Calamity is still fairly new, to avoid spoilers, I'll be referring the little guardian as "Egg".

So, I intended to have this out by mid-February... and as you could probably tell, that didn't happen. Sorry, about that. I was really burnt out and feeling out of it through out the month, so I didn't really get anything out. But I was working on it slowly, so here we are.

I decided to draw these two as good friends, because why not, let the ancient robots be pals. Though it's far too late to matter, I didn't have a good idea for a couple to draw for Valentine's, so I figured a platonic pair would work.

As always, getting the right intentions with these robots is difficult to great right, if it is even possible to get right. I wanted to give Emerl a smug look, like "check out my little friend", but without a mouth that's a little more challenging. As for Egg, he's supposed to giving a thumbs up, but again, difficult with his little claws-for-feet. My sister gave me a tip on how to it, but I still don't know how good it is. But yes, the whole point is to show how good of friends they are.

So, you're probably wondering... "why these two"? And you're thinking "well, clearly you like Gizoids a whole lot, and you're probably very much enjoying Age of Calamity". And while you'd be right, that is not the reason I wanted to draw this. And no, it's not because they are both ancient robots either, because there are more than that, even in their own series. No, it's because of music.

So, I was watching a video on Age of Calamity secrets, and they brought up the little four note tune that Egg plays to open their time portal, which is also a part of the game's main theme. Apparently, it's the first two notes of the Song of Time (which is cool. I did wish it was the Song of Time before I knew that, but I don't know what to think about them not using the full theme. It's super recognizable, and it's also the song I've practiced the most on my ocarina, so I personally know it pretty well, so not using the full theme is kind of weird to me). The video commentator said to listen to the tune closely to try to here Song of Time reference in the theme, and I did. I heard the Song of Time's first two notes, but I also heard something else...

It's sounds like a bit in the Gizoid's / Emerl's theme, particularly the middle part. Most Sonic fans would more likely recognize the Nonaggression version of the theme from Sonic Advance 3, but the same applies. And yes, did listen to the subject parts from both the Age of Calamity and Gizoid themes, and they do sound very similar.

Now, this pretty much has to be coincidence. Sonic Battle and Sonic Advance 3 were released in 2003 and 2004 receptively, placing these games over a decade and a half from Age of Calamity's 2020 release, making quite the release gap between the two games for this to be intentional. On top of that, like I already mentioned, Age of Calamity's theme is a reference to the Song of Time, which pre-dates Sonic Battle. And let's be honestly, who's going to use only the first two notes of the Song of Time, unless intended to be a hidden reference, and why would an unrelated game wish to do that.

Even still, realizing this inspired this whole piece, and who else would've found this out otherwise. Sonic Battle and Sonic Advance 3 aren't super big games outside the Sonic fanbase.
