Description

This is part of my "Gizoid Imitator" series, where I take a random character, and draw them as a Gizoid, who are powerful robots from Sonic Battle and Sonic Chronicles, that are able to copy the abilities of those they fight, to create unique Gizoid designs. It's as if these mimic masters decided to fully embody those that they copied. I based the framework design on my current Emerl and Gemerl Redesigns, which are more complicated than their original designs in Sonic Battle and Sonic Advance 3, respectively.
I do not intend to take requests, though don't let that stop you from dropping ideas. If I like the idea, I might take it, and add them to my list to work on later.

To start off this new series, I decided to do two Gizoid Imitators, Bowser from the Mario series, and Undyne the Undying from Undertale. This is the second of the two, the True Hero of the Underground, the monster's embodiment of Determination, Undyne the Undying!

Now, I choose to use Undyne the Undyne over regular Undyne, because I wanted to do an Undying the Undying piece originally, but I ended up using regular Undyne for my Undyne vs. Susie when I decided to represent both Undertale and Delta Rune. And I thought it would be cool to use my favorite Undertale character as one of my first Gizoid Imitators, so I chose to kill two birds with one stone. Plus, it's not the obvious, over-used Undertale rep, and I like being different (though I may do the skeletons in the future. I have ideas for them).

When thinking about the sort of shining eye Undyne the Undying has, I saw that it looked open and hollow (as if it was damaged before, especially considering that Undyne covers that eye with an eye patch normally), so I thought it would be cool to represent that by having the Gizoid's left eye shattered, broken, and empty. Also, I originally intended to have the third Gizoid eye closed, but then realized that, when it's open, it represents a Gizoid's power being unleashed or awakened (in most cases, Gemerl has the eye open at all times). And Undyne the Undying is definitely an unleashed / awakened state, in the broadest sense of the word. So, I made it opened, and also added cracks, as if the damage from the left eye also affected the central one.

For the face, I added design elements from Undyne's helmet. The helmet isn't a part of the Undyne the Undying design, but that form has no helmet, and it was the best way to get unique design elements for the head. Plus, both the helmet and the Gizoid base design have a horn on the forehead, so it fits together nicely. Just needed to sharpen the horn to make it fit. I also added a sort of toothy bottom to the faceplate, mimicking the helmet's monstrous design.

For the body, I decided to meld the armor design together, mimicking that more than my primary Gizoid design. I also added more colors based off of Undyne's skin color (well, it's more like... fish scales, probably), so it wasn't just a solid black color. On the head, I used Undyne's shade of red, but for the hearts on the body, I chose to use the common red used for Determination in the game. I don't know about you, but I feel that it fits better, considering those hearts probably represent Undyne's surging Determination (keep in mind, Asriel's Hypergod of Death form has those same designs). Also, looking at the sprite, I thought a part of it was to represent chain mail under the armor, so I decided to go ahead and added a chain mail texture, which I put under color burn to darken it.

I tried to mimic Undyne the Undying's in-game pose the best I can. Though I added her holding up her other hand, using her Green Soul Magic. I represented the green magic with the 8-bit heart used in the game. I'd personally prefer to use a regular, smooth heart shape to represent Undertale's Souls in most cases, but for this, I felt the 8-bit design fit best, considering the mechanical theme.

I am aware that Undyne the Undying is fought on the bridge where Monster Kid talked to you about realizing you're a human, but I thought that the rock spire where the normal battle is fought looked a lot cooler, especially for a posed piece. That's really why Undyne was up there in the first place, because of epic anime poses. I took a screenshot of the scene and a complete vector traced in for proper use in the piece.
