The murky land was more barren than Xeriah had thought, the faint scent she had picked up on, on the border, was stronger now that they had crossed the threshold.
Sciath found a small ledge to lie down on, his legs sore and weak from the journey. He listened to his sisters speaking with the stranger somewhere out of sight. The stranger had mentioned Xan, the lioness that he had once known, and their father. It was starting to sound like he had once been part of their old pride. His ears perked up when the stranger spoke of seeing Xan recently.
"He was ... saving a cub from a raiding band of rogues when it happened..." he said, his tone softening as he spoke the next part, "he lost his footing on a cliff." he sighed. "Both, he and the cub, fell.. I wish it had been me..." he looked down to his paws, hiding the gleam in his eyes.
"What..." Xeriah's eyes widened.
"NO!" Dwala's began to water.
Sciath sat up suddenly, he looked farther into the Swamp. Someone was watching them.
The stranger looked at the two lionesses, "I found his body after the rogues had gone. I promised to find his cubs for him."
Xeriah's head tilted to one side.
"CUBS?" Dwala questioned.
"Yes. He had cubs." just then, he realized that these three didn't know the truth- their pride had hidden it from them for so long. This was his chance. He could finally destroy Xan's life- take away the trust of these young lions, use them to spiral his brother's mind from within. He knew his brother would find a way to come back, he always found a way. This was his shot to seize control of his brother's legacy- ruin everything Xan had worked so hard to keep sacred. "When we were young, Xan and I knew a lioness. She was lovely -"
A roar sounded from Sciath as he zipped past the chatting group, lunging at a figure in the undergrowth.

Hey guys, I know its been a while since a "Pride" part, but here's the latest installment (...finally...) been preoccupied with working on other stuff in between spurts of setting up my apartment (which i finally managed to get into). But now that I'm mostly set up, parts of the story will be uploaded every other Sunday.
