How does one regain their sanity? Once you go insane, I doubt you are good enough to go back. And what is with all these red and black ponies, and why does he have stripes? He doesnt look like Luna's other guards. Shining armour is at least a white unicorn like some of the other royal guards.

I am not picking on you, or your friend, but this colorcombo and dark past has been done to death.

Regardless, your style of execution is hands-down amazing. The background is awesome and the vector is also really neat, not to mention the effect in the eyes.

Actually, the backstory was okay, at least, in my opinion. Maybe tell your friend to tone Shadow's powers down a bit, since I doubt that he himself has ever posed such a threat to the society that the most powerful forces in the world would have to defeat him. Another thing would be the appearance. The stripes look unnatural. If your friend's ponysona isn't in canon Equestria, or if your friend has unnatural/unusual markings all over his body in real life, then they can stay. Otherwise, it would be recommended to remove the stripes or at least make them less visible. And the last thing would be the color combination. Sure, the colors together look cool, but normal ponies simply aren't this dark. Of course, Luna's guards are dark, but they aren't black.They're grey. And actually, Black/Red ponies have become really common lately, so maybe it would be wise to make someone who is Luna's personal protector with a more unique color combination. But all in all, the ponysona is pretty good, just needs some polishing. Good work!

I'm glad you listened to me and added on my ankel bracelets. I must admit that the end result is just gorgeous, but I still wish you could have added in flowers. I want everypony to see that I'm fearsome and powerful, but gentle and caring.
