Monarch was first caught as a Krabby when Hiroki and his friend Satoru went camping out by the beach
of Olivine City, the night before they went to Sinnoh. Monarch attacked the intruders and showed off
battle capability that impressed both trainers. In the end, Hiroki managed to capture the crustecean Pokemon.
Monarch turned out to be a powerhouse throughout the journey, and as time went by, he became more
and more humble and gentle in his mannerism. He shows immense care for all Water-Types in Hiroki& Co.'s
teams, and if there is a ispute going on, he will take charge and try to solve that issue.

After the Battle Frontier, Hiroki went home to his home region of Johto, and his birthplace in Goldenrod City.
While there, he stumbled upon a stray Staryu that had been washed ashore, claiming to simply be bored
of the ocean. Arceus knows how Hiroki did it, but the tomboy starfish Pokemon, that identifies as female, came
with him and became part of the team. Hailey isn't afraid to speak her mind, and if she thinks something
is wrong or should be done different, she wastes no time in telling about it.

Here we have Hailey berating Monarch for spending his time slacking and entertaining the younger Water-Type
Pokemon, instead of keeping up his image as one of the strongest Pokemon there, in her eyes. Monarch knows
there is no point to argue, so he is just letting her go on. Truth is that Hailey admires the Kingler, and doesn't
want others to think lightly of him or be deemed as weak or lazy. So she does what she thinks is best to try
keeping jhim at the top of his game.
