Entry for 's cover contest for the amazing 'Echelon', go give it a read if you haven't already!

FINALLY!!  This took FOREVER to complete, and it was absolute CHAOS trying to get it done on time with being interstate, having software problems, and hayfever kicking in... but I'm SO SO proud with how it turned out!

Okay, time for a little explanation: [Minor spoliers for comic]

I tried to keep true to the style of the comic, and to capture the personalities of the characters.
Hodari sitting there looking content as usual, Chana being his shy handsome self, Tesa looking bubbly as ever, and Kaluwa her happy quiet self.
Rahisi is obviously angry, and I tried to make it seem like she was either looking inward, or upon her children, with his anger, as it is usually directed at them and comes from an internal place. She is looking down, like how she looks down on others.
Faraja is looking up, as she always tries to keep hopeful, though here her sadness is coming through. She is positioned next to Rahisi since they are sisters, and have that bond, despite how broken it has become.
Umba is a little worried, probably for Chana for Rahisi, and is also looking inward, or away, like how he usually turns a blind eye to Rahisi's behaviour.
I felt that Zuberi should bet included, as he is a relatively major part of the comic, and since he is deceased throughout and only ever seen alive in a flashback, he is faded as if a spirit. His pained smile reflects his longing to be with Faraja and his family, happy they are safe, but sad he is unable to be with them.
He, Faraja and Rahisi are grouped because of their bond and backstory, Umba is a little further away as he seems to have grown apart from them a little, keeping secrets about his health, and also to fill the top half of the piece better.
Khari is mishcevious as usual, and placed above Kaluwa since he is her foster brother, and I feel that Kaluwa looks up to him a little, though probably more so to Hodari and the others. I was going to include Masa but it felt too crowded at that point, and her character isn't as primary as the others, so she was left out.
The sky in the bottom half of the piece reflects the sky that Hodari loves so much, as it is seen in the comic when the gang first all come together as cubs, and again when true feelings are revealed. It is used when they have their best intentions.
The sky in the top half of the piece however is more dull and somewhat stormy, like the pasts of the characters up there, excluding Khari, but the stars are there shining through, promising hope for the future.
Everything else, and most of what I mentioned, is also a result of trying to create the right atmosphere and the best aesthetics.
