Something very simple for warmups tonight, I think I blew out the overlay layer a bit much so the smoke is too dark now that I look at it on my main monitor. Ah well...

But yeah it's a simple set up, used a symmetry brush to paint the general shape/idea of the rocket and built it up from there. As usual I wanted the focus on just a couple of elements so the smoke is painted as one layer then duplicated a few times and transformed. I think the exhaust should have been a bit more hot-white at the core all the way down, not just near the exhaust itself, I think that would sell the image a lot more. (Post work I went back and spent another 2min. adding in the exhaust, it was bothering me too much lol but I think it works so much better now)

Over everything is a veneer of blending modes, a few set to screen and color dodge to create that blown out heat from the exhaust, plus painting some of that into the smoke to try to give some of that luminosity punching through thinner areas.
