could be both. Ever read Milton's Paradise Lost? The story of the broken angel who angered God so much that he was sent to reign as Satan in Hell for all of eternity? The book describes the transformation of how a beloved angel, broken and hurt, let his pride consume him and turn him into the Satan we know today. Interesting read. Some even feel a bit sympathetic towards Satan before he was transformed into the devil himself. So, like I said, could be both, could be a fallen angle, at an inner crossroads.
