Description Beekit groomed her soft golden fur, taking great care to clean each black stripe to perfection.
"Beekit, Beekit!" squealed a voice, and she sighed, her bath interrupted. She turned to see her sisters, Lionkit and Whitekit, running up to her, her brother, Firekit, trailing behind.
"Guess what?" squealed Whitekit. She was a pretty white she-cat with bright blue eyes and silky fur. Sometimes Beekit envied her beauty. "Icedrop's kittens' eyes are open, and she finally came up with names for them! And they're soooo cute! You have to come see!"
"It's about time to leave the nursery behind, Whitekit," hissed Lionkit. She was a golden tabby like Beekit, but her stripes were white,  her eyes were amber, and she could act quite nastily sometimes. "We're going to be apprentices soon!" Whitekit looked crestfallen.
"It's okay," purred Beekit, giving her white sister a friendly lick on the ear. "I love little kitties. I'll come see them." Whitekit nodded, and they walked off, shoulder to shoulder, Firekit still trailing behind.
"Not to mention that you've never seen cats smaller than us before!" Lionkit hissed after them.
-
Beekit sat between Whitekit and Firekit in the nursery. They, as well as their tan and white brother, Nettlekit, were all purring at the newest kittens. "What are their names?" Beekit asked Icedrop, a white she-cat with faint gray stripes.
"The gray tabby is Silverkit," she meowed, "and the gray-black tom is Ravenkit, But I haven't come up with a name for the white she-cat yet. Perhaps I'll let Dreamstar decide."
"He'll come up with a good name," Beekit purred. Her warrior friend, Frozenfire, often came to play with her and tell her stories. While she was there, she often spoke fondly of Dreamstar, her former mentor.
"Naptime!" purred a voice, and Beekit saw her mother, Fawnheart. She was a lovely tan and white she-cat.
"I'm not tired," complained Firekit, who was a longhaired orange tabby.
"Oh, yes you are," purred their mother again. "Come on." Nettlekit, who was the best listener of the litter, flopped down in their nest, followed by a reluctant Whitekit, then Beekit, Firekit, and finally Lionkit.
"Mother?" asked Beekit. "Why are there so many of us? Blossomfur had two kits, and Icedrop had two kits... But we're five!"
Fawnheart looked down at her daughter and smiled. "I'm glad I have many kits," she purred. "If I had only two like Icedrop and Blossomfur, your father and I wouldn't have as much to love, would we?"
Beekit shook her head, silent, though still unwilling to join her siblings in slumber. "Where's father?" she asked. She hadn't seen Orangeblaze since Icedrop's kits were born.
"Very busy," replied her mother with a yawn, "though he loves you as much as I do." she paused, "Why do you ask so many questions?"
"I want to know everything," purred Beekit before she drifted off to sleep at last.
-
"Mooommmmmm! Mom, I'm clean! Stopiitttt I'm clean!" Beekit yowled. Fawnheart was giving her kits a thorough grooming after a rumor of five new apprentices reached the nursery. She'd groomed the others already, and as expected, Whitekit and Nettlekit were gentle, while Lionkit and Firekit had made the process long and complicated. Beekit wouldn't dare claw her mother, but her tongue was sharp enough and she used it well.
"I'm done, I'm done!" she cried again, and Fawnheart gently set her down.
"You are right," she meowed. "You look stunning." Though she looked proud, there was sadness in her amber eyes, and she was unexpectedly choked up when she spoke again, "Thank you, my precious kits, for spending these six moons with me."
Beekit turned away, afraid that the sudden wave of emotion from her mother might drown her. She happened to catch Nettlekit asking Firekit, "Do you think Dreamstar will make Heartsong my mentor?" Beekit felt bad for her brother. He had never fit in with the rest of his littermates, so he'd longed to be a medicine cat.
"May all cats old enough to catch thier own prey meet below the highstone for a clan meeting!" came Dreamstar's voice, loud and clear. Beekit's golden fur bristled along her spine.
"That's your cue," purred Fawnheart sadly. "Good luck, little ones. I shall be right out to watch your ceremony."
Beekit's siblings clambered to the opening of the den, but Beekit pushed in front of them, desperate to be the first one to step out into the sunlight, her golden fur sleek and shiny.
All eyes would be on her, she knew, so she wanted to be something worth watching.
-
"Snakesteps," meowed Dreamstar, "You will be mentor to young Firepaw. Pass on your intellegence and humor to this apprentice. Frozenfire, you need an apprentice now that you are the deputy. You shall take Whitepaw. I pray that you teach her everything I have taught you."
Lucky Whitepaw! thought newly named Beepaw as her white sister touched noses with the golden and white clan deputy. But when will it be my turn?
"That leaves Fogstorm," continued Dreamstar. "You shall mentor Beepaw. Pass on your loyalty and determination to this apprentice." Beepaw ran up to the gray cat she'd seen around camp before. She remembered being frightened of his mangled, odd-eyed appearance, but Frozenfire had told her he was nothing to be afraid of.
Beepaw touched noses with him, and they both smiled.
-
"This way!" She heard her mentor growl through the freezing rain. He was showing her the territory, and they were both soaked to the skin.
"I'm coming," panted Beepaw, paddling behind him, never losing sight of his gray pelt. Suddenly her ears pricked as she noticed a path of fast-moving water ahead of her. The river!
"This is the river," meowed Fogstorm. "It's where we get most of our food as well as recreational swimming. I'll soon teach you how."
Beepaw wanted to reach out with a paw and touch the water, but Fogstorm was already walking away. She jumped up to join him, and her mentor's whiskers twitched.
"Dewclan territory is over there," he mewed, pointing a paw. "And this river flows into Beachclan territory. Darkclan and Nightclan are in the other direction, but you must never go there."
Beepaw looked into Fogstorm's eyes and nodded solemnly, though she wondered why she couldn't go wherever she wanted- like the wind could.

lol, yes. I Fogie!

Nettlepaw got Heartsong, like he wanted, and Lionpaw got Skydance. Berryfur doesn't have an apprentice yet. He was asked to have one, but he refused so that Snakesteps and the clan deputy could each have one. I love Berry.
