Frozenkit just stood there as though she really were frozen! She'd dreampt about this moment since before she could open her eyes, but it was so soon!
Beside her, Blossomfur let out an exited squeal, leapt up, and ran away. She's going to go tell Honeyflower, Frozenkit realized.
Slowly, she got to her paws and walked to the highstone. She was aware of all eyes on her, and she was nervous to the point where she was focusing only on breathing. I will not mess up, she thought. This day needs to be perfect.
Unable to climb the highstone, she simply sat in front of it, looking nervously out at the sea of cats waiting to welcome her into the clan. Frozenkit was aware of Honeyflower comming out of the nursery, a proud look on her golden tabby face.
"Frozenkit," meowed Squirrelstar. "You are now six moons old, therefore it is time you begin your training. Until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Frozenpaw."
Frozenpaw! I'm called Frozenpaw! She wasn't nervous anymore.
"Dreamheart, you are a loyal deputy, one of the best the clans have ever seen. You shall train Frozenpaw."
Frozenpaw looked around, wondering who Dreamheart was. She didn't have to wonder long. A light gray tomcat with a black underbelly ran up to her, touching her with his nose. His blue eyes looked as though they were on fire. Frozenpaw thought he'd be a good mentor.
"Frozenpaw! Hey, Frozenpaw!"
The newly named apprentice turned around to see a black and white she-cat prance up to her, her golden eyes exited.
"Come on!" she purred. "I'll show you around!"
Frozenpaw gladly but confusedly followed her.
"I'm called Snakepaw, by the way," her new friend informed her.
The apprentice den was giant, Frozenpaw realized as she walked into the cave. It wasn't too cramped or too warm, and there were no pesky kits in sight. It was the complete opposite of the nursery.
"You can sleep right next to me," Snakepaw purred, pulling some clean moss out of the corner of the den. Frozenpaw nodded her approval, confused at how she'd made a friend so quickly.
"Thank you," she mewed gratefully, spreading the moss out by Snakepaw.
"So you do know how to talk!" The black and white apprentice joked. "I was getting worried!"

Later that night, Frozenpaw shared a rabbit with Snakepaw, listening eagerly as she told her all about her new life.
"Berrypaw's over there," she purred. "He's real nice. Skypaw and Fogpaw are with him."
Frozenpaw followed Snakepaw's gaze to see three cats sleeping in a pool of moonlight filtering through a hole in the ceiling. One of them was fluffy and black. The other two were gray, and one of them had white patches. She noticed none of them had ginger fur like her, and she wondered why.
"We're doing something important tomorrow."
Both Frozenpaw and Snakepaw jumped at the sudden sound of the new voice, but it was only Dreamheart, standing by the entrance of the den, his eyes shining.
Frozenpaw nodded, and laid down on her new bed. She couldn't wait for tomorrow!
