Description Frozenpaw narrowed her eyes, concentrating hard. Her four paws were spread under her, each sharing an equal amount of her weight. Her claws slid in and out as she glided forward silently. Suddenly she jumped, her front claws landing on the neck of a mouse.
Frozenpaw picked up her catch, satisfied. It had been two moons since the ill-fated gathering, and since then she had learned how to hunt and fight. Darkclan hadn't caused trouble by then, but it was only a matter of time until they decided they wanted revenge.
"Great catch!" mewled a voice, and Frozenpaw wanted to turn around to see who had spoken, but she knew it was no use. It was the voice inside her head, and it didn't talk to anyone but her.
"Something is coming," it murmured. "The flame of the forest must ignite in the starlit shadows."
Frozenpaw tried to ignore it, but found it hard. The voice had been uttering pointless, useless words lately. Shadows couldn't be starlit, she knew, and fire was bad for the forest.
She heard a rustle in the bushes in front of her, and she tensed automatically, smelling the scent of Dewclan. She walked forward, ready to fight, but was dismayed to find not a Dewclan patrol, but a single golden tabby she-cat. Her hind leg was twisted out behind her. It looked painful.
"Don't hurt me," mewled the cat pathetically, looking up at Frozenpaw with scared yellow eyes.
"I won't," mewed Frozenpaw, sitting down. This cat wasn't dangerous. "Who are you and what happened?"
The she-cat looked relieved. "I'm Lightpool," she meowed, seeming slightly more confident to Frozenpaw. "I was looking for Shadowbird, my sister, when I realized I'd crossed the border. Your territory's really rocky. I tripped over something." she sighed. "I'm no good at anything. I just wish I were a medicine cat."
Frozenpaw was silent for a few minutes, then came to the conclusion that this cat could be trusted. "I'm Frozenpaw," she said, "And I'm sure you're a fine warrior." She pointed with her paw back through the bushes. "Your territory's that way. Can you walk?"
Lightpool nodded, struggling to her paws. "I'm fine. Thanks, Frozenpaw."
"And one more thing- don't tell your clan about me." The last thing she needed was someone to know that she'd helped an enemy warrior.
Lightpool looked surprised, but she nodded and limped away.
"You did a good thing," said the voice. "She won't forget this."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Darkclan's attacking!" cried out a voice, and Frozenpaw looked up from the pile of mouse bile she was smearing onto an elder's coat. She turned to see the newly named warriors, Skydance and Fogstorm, rushing towards Squirrelstar's den. Frozenpaw instinctively walked up to the highstone, knowing Squirrelstar would be comming out to address the clan.
The red she-cat emerged from her den and started hissing orders.
"Icedrop, Orangeblaze, Berryfur, Stormchaser, Skydance, and Fogstorm! You'll follow me into battle as well as Snakepaw, Minnowpaw, and Frozenpaw! The rest of you are to stay here, understood?"
"You are not taking my apprentice out there!" growled a voice, and Frozenpaw spun around to see Dreamheart. "You're not making Creampaw go, so why should she?"
"Frozenpaw is two moons older than Creampaw," pointed out Icedrop, moving towards Frozenpaw's side. "She can handle it."
Dreamheart sighed, defeated. "Alright," he said, "but I don't want to be the one to tell poor Honeyflower where you're taking her only kit.  Take care of yourselves." He looked at Icedrop. "Please."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frozenpaw's heart pounded as the Rainclan patrol smashed into the Darkclan cats. She found the smallest cat she could, a white apprentice that was about a mouse-length taller than her, and slammed into him, butting him out of the way with her head.
The cat let out a furious hiss, then knocked Frozenpaw over with a swipe of one strong paw.
"No! Stay on your paws!" yowled the voice, just as Fogstorm came and grabbed the white apprentice up by his scruff and tossed him aside.
"Stay by me," he growled. "You wouldn't want to get trampled."
Frozenpaw did as he said, battling with cat after cat. Time passed in a blur, and she soon realized the battle was over. Darkclan was retreating. They had won. The cats escaped from view, but not before a brown tabby she-cat hissed some words right at her face.
"You're not worth it anyway, you half-clan scum! I'm glad you were stolen!"
Then they were gone, leaving Frozenpaw confused and hurt. She was half-clan? Had she really been born in Darkclan?
She didn't have much time to wonder, for an anguished voice drifted toward her.
"Squirrelstar! No!"
