I've been working on colouring this wonderful piece created by Alison Rementer since Otakon. Background slightly inspired by "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow". I do so love Yoshi and all the Super Mario Bros Charas...even the stolen character Birdo. And I must admit, the whole Birdo/Yoshi relationship is....special. I wonder what those three are looking at, lol!Related content

This was really cool, while the focus is clearly on Yoshi, I can't help but just think of Mario or Luigi being something reminiscent of 1930's gangsters, just the suits I guess. Any how, a really beautiful pic this be.

Mario 2 is actually a remake of Yume KΕjΕ: Doki Doki Panic with Mario Characters. Birdo was originally a character in that game. But was popular enough to be seen in later mario games and became a persistant part of the Mario 'universe'.

I'm acctually aware of the whole "Doki Doki Panic-to-SMB2" thing already. (Oddly the game was made by alot of the same people who worked on the Mario games, including Shigeru Miyamoto himself. Wich is probilly why they used the enemies in later Mario games.)

Coolies, I didn't know that. I was always under the impression that they aquired it from another studio and that Nintendo's involvement was only in the translation from the old game to the new one.

Yeh, alot of people made that mistake. Even I did at first.
Probilly because of the "Fuji TV" thing on the copywrite thing at the bottom of the title screen. They didn't make the game, they're just a TV studio who owns the orrigenal 4 main Arabian-looking hero characters in Doki Doki Panic. (Wich is probilly one reason Nintendo replaced them with the Mario gang)
All of the enemies, and stuff in the game however were made, and owned by Nintendo.

Birdo was stolen from a game called Doki Doki Panic which was released in Japan, It was released in America under the name Super Mario Brothers 2. In Japan SMB2 is know as SMB2 USA, their SMB2 Is Super Mario Brothers: The Lost Levels which works like Mario 1 only you can play as either Mario or Luigi who have different levels.
