Gilbert had just broken up with his girlfriend of several years. He needed time by himself so he could clear his head from the ordeal. He journeyed deep into the woods where no one else was likely to find him. This was the furthest into the woods he had ever gone. Nothing seemed familiar to him.

In the distance, Gilbert heard the sound of running water. He went over to investigate. It was a fountain. There was no reason for a fountain to be in the middle of the woods and yet there it was. Stranger still on top of the statue in the center of the fountain was an envelope. Despite its location, the envelope was dry.

Gilbert picked up the envelope and saw that it was addressed to him. It was from his old girlfriend. As he opened it, he wondered how she could have possibly known where he was going to go. He was not even entirely sure where he was himself.

The letter inside the reasons why she broke up with him, where she was going, and what she was going to do. It made him cry. Everything was going wrong for him. He wished he could find a place where he could live happily ever after.

At that moment, he slipped and fell into the fountain. It was much deeper than he thought it was. Instead of just getting wet, he sank deep underwater. The bottom was nowhere in sight.

Realizing he would most likely drown, Gilbert panicked. Then he noticed he was not having any trouble breathing. It did not make any sense. Bright lights surrounded him and transformed his body.

Gilbert became more cartoon-like. His clothing fused together and turned pink. Then the bottom opened up forming a dress. A ribbon appeared and tied itself around him, flowers appeared in his hair, and his shoes disappeared completely.

Other changes occurred simultaneously. His hair grew out well below his waist and turned strawberry blond. His body slimmed down and gained some feminine curves. Facial and body hair disappeared. Finally his genitals changed leaving him, or her, fully female.

When she looked down at herself, she saw a strawberry blonde cartoon woman wearing a pink dress. That did not seem right and yet it was. A name floated into her mind. The name was Giselle. At first it did not sound quite right, but soon she became aware that it was. Except for her being underwater, everything was as it should be.

Giselle tried to swim up to the surface but the current kept pulling her back. She did not think she would have the endurance to keep going. Then a hand reached out to her. Giselle reached out to whoever it was and was pulled up to safety. She found herself once again next to the fountain and dripping wet.

The person who rescued her was Prince Edward to whom she was engaged. He offered her his cloak for her to dry off which she gladly accepted. Then he helped her up onto his horse. As they rode off together into the sunset, all thoughts Giselle had of being Gilbert faded from her mind. The last such thought she had was that she got the happily ever after ending she wanted after all.
