Words Below:
Ruth, formerly Ruben, found herself at the front door of a house she did not recognize. She felt like about 31 percent of her old memories were missing but that was just silly. Not knowing what else to do, she rang the doorbell. The door opened and a man and a woman were there to greet her. Ruth knew enough about what was going on to figure out these were her new parents.
They asked Ruth about her day in school. Even though she had not actually been to school that day, she found herself answering the questions as if she had. Instinctively she not only knew the answers to their questions, but answered them in a way that a young girl who was their daughter would.
As Ruth went upstairs to what she knew was her room, she had a feeling things were only going to get stranger. A quick glance inside proved her feelings correct. The room looked just like the room of a young girl which was exactly what she had become.
The walls were pink, the bedsheets had cartoon animals on them, and nearby was a toy box filled with dolls and other stuffed animals. Ruth got out one of the dolls and started to play with it. Her behavior was changing to match her new identity and stranger still she did not know whether or resist it or go along with it.
Dizziness overwhelmed her. Ruth wondered if this would be the moment when she forgot about her old life. It was not to be. The dizziness subsided and soon things returned to normal, her new normal.
Ruth did her best to adjust to her new life at home, at school, and elsewhere. She asked for a life restart and she had gotten one. It was unlikely she would ever see the old woman again. Even if she did, returning to a life of debt and unemployment was out of the question.
Still having her previous memories, Ruth would plan her life carefully so it did not happen again. Most of her money would be saved, she would study hard in school, and she would do her best to develop better social skills. Her life had already improved. She just needed to make sure it stayed that way.
