Darren and Mia were high school classmates. Mia was a cheerleader. Darren had a crush on her. Although they had talked many times, he never told her how he truly felt about her.

When Mia volunteered to coach the cheerleaders at the elementary school next door, Darren thought he would get his chance. When he was done with his own after school activities, he walked over there and caught the end of their performance. He was impressed.

The girls left their pom-poms behind, probably because they belonged to the school. They were purple and yellow and bright and sparkly. Darren thought picking the pom-poms up would be the best way to get Mia's attention.

He picked them up and started doing their routine as best he could. As soon as he did, reality itself changed. All memories of him faded from the memories of the others, including Mia, and all objects belonging to him completely disappeared.

Before Darren knew what was going on, he changed into a young girl in a cheerleading outfit. Her outfit was like the others she had just seen. She appeared to be in elementary school. Darren realized she was Darcy, one of the girls on the elementary cheerleading team who Mia had volunteered to aid.

Objects appeared in the world to confirm the existence of Darcy, including an extra set of pom-poms, and people had memories of Darcy from the decade or so she had been alive. Ironically, the one person who still remembered Darren was Darcy. Stranger still, rather than worrying about the change, she saw this as the perfect opportunity to impress Mia. She raised her pom-poms into the air and performed the routine as if she had been doing it for months.

"That was very good!" exclaimed Mia. "I can see how much you've improved."

"Thank you," Darcy replied. "I gave it my best effort."

Darcy put her pom-poms down and ran off to the car where her parents were waiting for her. She had impressed Mia and this made her very happy.
