The door burst open with such force that for a second Amenii thought their apparent was being broken into! Mixing spoon flying from her hand, she spun around eyes flashing around the kitchen looking for a path to escape. Back pressed against the counter her legs coiled under her ready to explode outwards and make for a window. Her brain already processing the probability of her falling three stories to the concrete below.

Nose working along with her other senses slowed brought her more information, the familiar scent, the creak of weight on the floorboards. A second later the door closed with a click as the door was closed and bolted.

Running her fingers over her face to try and mask her dispelling trembling, Amenii tried to force the adrenaline spike down and out of her system. Moments later the looming shadow of her massive lover fell over her. Framed in the doorway it only took a glance to tell her that something was wrong.

'Nera, your home early!'

'Yeah.' Nera's tone was flat, arms folded over her chest, as a scowl tugged at the corner of her lips. 'Early.'

Frowning at the hyena's single word response, Amenii's ears folded back as she looked over her lover once more. Frame rigid as she leaned against the door way the bunny could tell her lover was trying to keep her temper in check. Drawing in a breath to help her build up her courage, Amenii undid the apron and pulled it up over her head before letting it fall and moving to embrace the predator standing three times her size.

Comically her head barely came up to Nera's naval as she wrapped her arms around the small of the hyenas back.

'I didn't expect you for another hour or so - dinners still being made but I could put you together a snack.' Looking up all she could see was the undside of Nera's breasts, giant rounded orbs that obscured her lovers face. Something Nera had often commented on when the bunny went to hug her without a stool present. The act itself almost enough to make her lover smile, Amenii could feel it as her face pressed against her belly. A few heartbeats later Nera's massive hand moved down to embrace her back hugging her tightly. 'Good to see you home again.'

A long sigh came from the hyena looming over her, some of the tension in her muscles releasing.

'Come on, I'll make you a sandwich.' Amenii slowly pulled away catching Nera's hands in her own and guiding the hyena from the kitchen to the living room. The act of leading her always made Amenii smile knowing that the hyena tolerated and even found the idea of Amenii leading her around to be amusing. 'Here you go. Rest and I'll be right back.'

Letting go as Nera fell backwards into the embrace of their old worn couch, the cushions letting out a sigh as they moved to envelope the hyena's frame. A quick glance at her face told Amenii that whatever was gnawing at Nera was not going to go away. I the kitchen she busied herself putting together something her lover would enjoy, light, and maybe a chilled drink as well. Mind working over the weeks events she couldn't put her finger on anything that would set Nera off like this, that left an external force - and likely work related.

Putting everything in order she drew in a breath and prepared for the conflict that was waiting in the living room.

Amenii knew better than to disturb Nera while she eat her way through the snack, giving her time to enjoy the moment without distraction. Only after the plate had been cleaned and Nera loosed a sigh of relief to lay back against the couch did Amenii slowly move beside her lover, ascending the back of the sofa to position herself behind the hyena. Small hands reaching out to sweep back her waves of flowing curls, Amenii gently began to kneed the muscles around Nera's shoulders.

Mumbling a deep sigh of contentment Amenii blew out her own breath as she felt the tension slip away. Several minutes of working proved to be enough to relax Nera enough to talk, reaching up to grasp Amenii around the middle and lift her into the hyena's lap.

'So, you want to know what happened at work today?' Nera began, Amenii all to aware of the massive paws stroking her. Strong fingers mov9ng up and down her smaller frame.

'Let me guess - a drunkard tried to bite you?'

Nera snorted, though a smile touched her lips.

'Car accident?'

'Try again.'

'Rhinoceros wresting gone wrong?'

'I wish.' Nera grumbled, her stroking fingers stopped as her grip closed to lift Amenii up to be just below eye level. 'No, all of that I can handle. - what happened today, was less pleasant.'

Amenii's heart was racing, the underlying tension in her figure was back again and slowly rising.

'I got called into a closed door meeting with management.' Those terrible green eyes narrowed as they focused on Amenii. 'Do you know why?'

A cascade of possibilities ran through Amenii's hea, each worse than the one before it.

'Uh-'

'Your mother.'

Immediately all the possibilities fell away replaced with a sense of stark terror.

'Yeah, your beginning to understand now.'

'What did she do this time?' Amenii was almost afraid to ask, she could feel the slight trembling in Nera's hands as the hyena fought to keep her anger in check. 'She didn't get you fired did she!'

'No.' Nera growled. 'But not for lack of trying. Turns out she took the news of us not attending the summer get together as a sign that I had finally decided to stop playing coy and eaten you.'

Amenii looked aghast, then a slight smile tugged at the corner of her lips.

'Oh you think that is funny, it got better too!' Head falling back against the cushions she began a rant to the ceiling. 'Apparently your lack of returning her calls has only driven her to assume the worst. Therefore not only have I eaten you, I am supposedly running a bunny chop shop at the hospital to pay for our vacation.'

Not giving Amenii a chance to interject the hyena bulldozed on.

'That's not all - apparently she sent her concerns to the director, the chief of security at the hospital, and, my supervisor as well. All of which had to attend a very lengthy meeting were I got to defend every action I ever took while working.'

'Oh.' Amenii managed in a quiet voice not liking were this was going.

'Oh right.' Nera grumbled. 'Hours of security footage, and countless reviews. It was even hinted at that I may want to quietly retire before they close the investigation.'

'And, did you?'

'Ha!' Nera barked. 'I told them your mother was madder than a bag of spiders and that if they wanted to scrutinize ever second of every hour I worked they were more than welcome to do so.'

'Well that's good?' Amenii asked not quite sure what to say. 'Right?'

'It got a rise out of them, and, it also got me on suspension until the investigation is complete. So, I'm home early. And won't be able to go to work for about two weeks.'

Amenii's mind was already racing putting everything together, groceries, expenses, repercussions.

'So you can tell that crazed fluff ball of yours that once this closes - I may just pay her a visit too.'

'Nera! Don't joke about that, she's just - overprotective that's all.'

'That's an understatement.' Nera snorted, tilting her head forwards to loom over Amenii. 'I've never seen a bunny go this crazy over her kits before. And I grew up in a family with three brothers!'

'I - I'll talk to her, let her know I'm still alive.' Amenii ran a hand down over her ears, the revelation not a particularly fond of one. 'She's probably still mad that we didn't go down there for Christmas too.'

'As fun as being stuck in a cramped hole in the ground is, I'm not going again.' Nera frowned, recalling that unpleasant experience. 'Not again. Oh, and you better make it a Skype call - that old bat has been causing me of mimicking your voice and thinks I have been for the last month.'

Pushing herself up to look at Nera, Amenii did her best to meet the predator's gaze. 'Just don't do anything rash if - when I do, okay?'

'What me?' Nera smiled some of the tension leaving her frame. 'What have I ever done?'

'Yes you - and the list goes on and on - I still have the scars on my bum from years ago to prove it!'

'Such fond memories.'

'Maybe for you.' Amenii huffed, smiling despite herself. It was good to see Nera's bad mood bleeding away. 'Now if you excuse me I still have an early dinner to finish preparing, and, a lengthy video conversation with my mother.'

'Not so fast.' Nera's paws snaked out to grap her, wrapping around her frame and pulling her back into the hyena's bosom. 'I'm not quite done with you yet.'

Leaning in the hyena pressed a warm kiss upon the bunny's brow, her nose, and then upon her lips. Heart racing, Amenii offered no resistance.
