Description
Sirse was never good at waiting, but for this moment, she was willing to make an exception. It had taken the combined effort of a month of planning, coupled with a cocky gray wolf who seemed to take just as much delight in the situation as she did, and promises that to a certain venue for two. Though she had expressed her apprehension on his success rate on that path.
‘Highly unlikely.’ She had cautioned him when they had sat to work out their deal to gain entry to the building set withing the sky ways of the city spreading around them. ‘And dangerous to your health too.’
‘She’s just playing hard to get is all, I’m sure that under that icy striped exterior-‘
‘Is even a darker colder interior.’ She has signed back. ‘Or worse.’
The chief obstacle to her plan, one fiery tempered zebra who took her job a bit to seriously was always a bit of concern. One that had proved to be her undoing on two previous attempts, only to be throw out bodily by the giant oaf upon her attempted deception. Apparently, The Boss, didn’t like surprises regardless of how they were dressed, or lack thereof. She had even tried to point out that they were married and it was all in good fun, that had gone over well as Sirse swore the zebra took more than a malicious stroke of glee in drop kicking her and her box out over the curb side while she was still inside.
Not this time, this time she had help in the form of a most unexpected allay.
‘So, all I want you to do is sow a little chaos – keep that striped monster at occupied while I get to the elevators.’
‘And you, get me seats at LaRogg’.’ The wolf grinned wickedly at her. ‘Two seats, to be exact. Pass or fail, I am going to need those confirmed in advance.’
Sliding an envelope over the table Sirse smiled her own grin flashing those white teeth.
‘Already taken care of.’
With a final nod, the wolf slipped the envelope into his pocket, collected his hat, gave her one last grin.
‘This is going to be fun like no one’s business.’
…
Several hours later, the plan had gone off without a hitch. Or so she had guessed, she had only gotten to hear the first rumblings of what was building. Though after the fire alarm was sounded, cancelled, sounded again, and then cancelled with a general announcement to disregard she began to wonder if maybe her comrade in arms had taking just a little too much pleasure in his part to play.
Her concerns were only fanned when an ambulance pulled up to the building and several medical personnel were ushered inside.
Oh, boy.
Well, at least she was where she needed to be, and the ambulance departed without taking anyone out, both good events in her books. Taking the time to look around the bears office she marveled at how organized everything was. The entire place felt polished, empty, almost as though its occupant had cleaned out the entire floor to decorate the place with the nothingness. The more she looked the more she became convinced that this was what Gus had done. With building space costing a premium, rather than fill his work area with clutter, he had instead gone for the reverse, emptying out the area entirely to subtly telegraph his position of power.
That brought a smile to her lips, though it did throw a small wrench in her plans, as she had been planning a bit of mischief with anything she could get her hands on should she have the opportunity. Alas this did not seem the case, standing such stark contrast to her former boss’s office space with its piles of paperwork, boxes of half organized artifacts, and maps, maps, charts, and string leading in haphazard lines over the walls. What any of it meant had been a mystery worthy of Sherlock Homes himself and she had never gotten a clear answer regarding it, save for a half mumbled reply her boss had made about ‘The heat death of the universe, and never you mind why.’ Before sinking into his coffee fueled delirium he called a work frenzy.
‘Always remember, if you are going to work on anything, work like Roosevelt did.’ Or so he was fond of saying. The memory made her smile, before she moved over to the nearly baren desk save for its flat screen monitors.
Shaking her head, she popped up, and pushing the screens to the side, and took a seat in the center of the newly made space.
She would wait, and he would come.
