Description
‘Just be careful, she’s got a reputation for, well, her unnatural habits.’ Nick grimaced causing Judy to look over at him suspiciously, and clearly unsatisfied with his explanation motioned for him to continue. ‘Maybe it would be best if you see for yourself.’Frowning, Judy up at her partner. ‘It sounds like you know this mammal.’
‘Soft of.’ Giving a little shrug, Nick avoided her gaze, if she didn’t know better she swore he looked almost uncomfortable with the idea of meeting this, this, squatter. ‘I only heard about her second hand. She’s soft of a local fortune teller, witchdoctor, priest, and cultist. All sort of rolled into one, depending on who you ask. She mostly kept to herself though, and doesn’t have a reputation causing trouble. That is what makes this even more unnerving.’
‘Unnerving?’ Judy elbowed Nick in the ribs playfully. ‘If I didn’t know better I would say you sounded nervous.’
Nick’s eyes narrowed for just a second.
‘You haven’t heard the stories I have about her.’ Muttering, Nick rounded the corner giving Judy her first impression of the neighborhood and why some mammals may have taken to calling their lead a ‘Witchdoctor.’ The surrounding area was run down, not quite a slum by Zootopia standards, but it had defiantly seen better days.
‘Over there.’
Following Nick’s gaze Judy had to scan the area he indicated twice. There, between two sagging joined by a mess of tarps and several heaps of garbage piles a tent flap flittered in the wind. ‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’ Judy growled, looking up at her partner again, as to confirm her suspicions. ‘That’s where she lives?’
Eyes fixed on the molding tarps, Nick only nodded, his face had become a careful mask.
‘Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained.’ Judy nudged him again for good measure. ‘Come on Wild, lets find out what our mystery guest has to offer.’
The smell was overpowering, and upon entering the make shift tent Judy felt her stomach churn. It was a repulsive sweet sickness to it of rotting vegetables, scented candles, burnt wood, and half a dozen other smells that made her head spin. Matched with the chaotic smells, the décor was held together in a similar fashion. Ropes hanging from the ceiling bore trinkets of all types. Brass doorknobs, bottle caps, even small bones that Judy made her self look away from. She did not want to have to open an investigation that would require her to come back here.
Worse yet were the strange symbols, charcoal drawings, and busts that surrounded the octangular room. Strange did not begin to describe the almost alien imaginings, works of a clearly demented mind. One in particular drew her attention, a perfectly circular gateway made of tiles, each segment etched with a symbol that looked almost familiar. As she pressed herself closer for a better look, Judy could make out several notes scribbled in tiny handwriting: ‘There are seven, always seven.’ Besides the note was a large ‘V’ inscribed.
‘Fascinating.’ A whisper of a voice came from behind her, causing Judy to jump almost a foot as she whirled around. There, clad in a motley assembly of discarded clothes stood a finick fox. Judy was glad that the finick was, as Nick had warned her, blind. As so she hoped the fox would not see her face twist at the sight of her.
Filthy bandages ran up both arms, and it was clear that some were saturated with what Judy hoped was paint, though it was difficult to tell due to the colors. The bandages were not what made the fox before her so intimidating, though they did add to the ensemble, her true horrors came in the cloth wrapped around her eyes, or where here eyes should have been. Instead, even visible under the fabric Judy could make out the outlines of the hollow sockets sunk into the nightmare of a face.
Several sets of eyes had been painted just above and below the blindfold, and Judy chose instead to focus on the top set instead of the wrapping.
‘Uh..Uh, you must be…’
‘Larandar.’ The finick smiled, her long ears flicking like twin radar dishes towards Judy. Resisting the urge to step back, Judy, tried to keep her calm, Nick was right, there was something very unnerving about this one. ‘And you must be Judy…Hopps. And behind me is Nick Wild?’
Judy’s eye’s flicked over the Larandar’s shoulder, where Nick stood rooted to the spot. Still smiling, Larandar turned without another word and moved deeper into the maze of flapping fabric and hanging trinkets. Exchanging a hesitant look, both Nick and Judy followed. In the adjoining room, Larandar, had taken a seat on a large beanbag that had been patched together with a dozen odds and ends. Even so, the beads still leaked out at ripped seams.
Head lolling as though she were about to fall asleep she addressed them.
‘Judy… Hopps.’ Her voice cracked, straining with effort. ‘I see so many eyes watching you. So many.’
‘Right…’
‘And you Nick, I see Eyes watching you as well!’
Nick did not respond, but stepped closer to Judy.
‘Look, Ms. Laran-‘
‘Lara.’ The finick cut her off. ‘I know why you are here. And the answer is no.’
Growing frustrated rather quickly Judy stepped forwards, despite Nicks grasping paw. ‘But – I haven’t even asked you what we came here for.’
‘I Know.’ Lara’s blind gaze fixed on her. ‘I see things, seeing things that no one else has seen before! I have seen you, and I know, why…you are here.’
Shaking her head, Judy mustered her courage, letting it fill her with defiance. ‘You, you’re crazy as they say!’
‘Crazy.’ The finick twitched. ‘Crazy. Crazy. Crazy! Crazy!’
Hand twitching out to grab a curtain and ripping it down in a single motion.
‘This,’ She drew in her breath. ‘This…is what I see.’
The sight was enough to make even Judy flinch. It was just to alien. To detailed. To complete to be fictional. Covering the walls were hundreds of notes, pictures, dates, notes, charts. Each more vivid than the next, a black figure with a red sword of fire, a great eye made of fire, terrible creatures made of metal, their single eyes glowing red, a terrible creature that looked like an octopus creature hunkering down, its long claws protruding in a menacing crouch. Fascinating, horrifying, mesmerizing, it was enough to hurt her eyes, and Judy found that she had to look away after only a few seconds. There was just too much there.
‘Crazy.’ Lara mumbled, her voice quiet now. Saddened somehow. ‘I see these visions every night. Every night.’

Thank you, it seems that every universe has at least one kind of 'Seer' or should in any case. So, filling in for Zootopia is a crazed little fox who sees way to much outside of her own world. Not that is seems to be doing good things to her health though.

Very nice story Code-Shark . Just one thing. You have described Lara as a fennec fox but the way you drew her she looks like Judy or Amenii. The snout is too short and the face too round to look like a fox. You may want to redo the drawing (or else change the type of animal Lara is to fit your drawing).

Sorry to point it out. Hope that you’ve survived the weather and your job drama. I’m more or less back to speed and should catch up with the last two storylines tonight: the Valentine story with Sirse and Gus & the matrimonial night between Gerrell and Ombwa.
By the way, would you be open to creating a more detailed character reference sheet for all our characters? That way it will be easier to tell their stories?

Not at all, how else am I supposed to grow as an individual? And, I am almost out of the woods, after much hazagling (beating around the bush politically) I have gotten a transfer approved and will be moving to a new location in a months time. And with the approval, tensions have ebbed a bit, one party has declared peace, and the other seems bent on pretending I do not exist. Which I am perfectly fine with at this point.
Very good, I too having taken a day off am getting back to our stories as well, as there remain two that I need to get back to you on. I shall be tackling these today as well.
Character reference sheets, I have wanted to do that for some time now. Mostly due to the extreme detail of the drawings involved I like to commission artists and then fill in their bio myself, alas the artist I have been wanting to get work done from is, slow, impossibly slow in responding. So, it looks like I will have to compose these myself. If you don't mind me asking for your assistance here, I suspect you also remember details that I do not.
One issue I do see coming to mind, and I hope to bounce off you - The story of how Amenii lost her legs. Underbelly.

Ah yes. The Underbelly Incident where she was a rookie police officer. I’ve been reading a few other Zootopia fan fics and I have an idea as to how it may have happened. Seeing that she was perpetually being picked on (the term, workplace bullying comes to mind) by her own superior, no less, made her eager to prove her worth and value. So she became a bit reckless and jumped into a situation where caution was called for. She had heard how Judy had stopped a rhino before so she thought she could do her one better and tried to stop a rampaging bull elephant hyped up on illicit drugs. She miscalculated and the enraged elephant used his trunk to smash her into his sharpened tusks, piercing both her legs. By the time the medics arrived (delayed because the ZPD needed to use lethal force to put down the berserk mammal), too much blood had been lost and they had to amputate her legs in order to save her.

I see you and I think alike, much of what you mention here follow the arc both thoughtfully and carefully. The only divergence is in the aspect of how she lost her legs, this is a story I have been holding off on publishing for some time as it is a little grim, and set up as a mystery. I can give you the brief, though it was to be explored from Amenii's perspective trying to figure out what happened to her after she came out of her six month coma.
Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!! D:
Executing a rash action against orders of her superior Yarrow, and against Nera's wishes as well, Amenii sough out a organization calling itself Underbelly, yes the same one that Gus and Sirse visited. Though an earlier time at this point. Unfortunately she was discovered, and the mammals involved had little issue using lethal force to eliminate the witness, resulting in a horrifying cat and mouse game while Amenii tired to escape. Gonna Rip Your Ears Off Bunny!
The loss of her legs came at the hands of an elevator, while trying to escape into the ducts one of the predators got a hold of her legs, and, the results were rather bone crushingly horrifying.
Shortly after this, she was brought before the owner of the establishment, a black panther called Mr. Ube. Angered with what happened to Amenii, yet not seeing much hope in her survival he had one of his first responders drug her to alleviate her suffering, before ordering her to be disposed of.
Placed in a black doctors bag lined with rocks Amenii was then cast over the falls, where, presumably her body would be taken out to see and sink removing any trace of her being there. Unplanned by Mr. Ube though, the icy water was enough to shock Amenii back to consciousness and give her time to make it to shore in the outer docs region of Zootopia. There she began crawling back to the city to try and find help, only to be located by some of the locals who called in the ambulance.
She managed to say conscious just long enough to scream 'Underbelly!' over and over again before drifting off into a comatose state. What Happened? What Happened!
This is the end of part one.
Part two takes place mostly from Nera's perspective, how she handled Amenii's 'Death' and the subsequent pain at the loss of her lover. An investigation, into what happened, coverups made, serious depression setting in. Nera taking up drinking to try and keep the demons at bay. And the introduction of a physiologist bunny who, has been sent by Mr. Ube.
Having discovered that Amenii is still alive, Mr. Ube was determined to see that the witness was eliminated, overseeing the act personally this time. Only to arrive at the hospital to find Nera crying over Amenii's body, this touches a cord, as (Deeper spoilers!) He to had a lover that was wounded* See side story - motivation:
*Ubie once had a bunny lover, back when Zootopia was young and wild. He and his twin brother Yarrow were part of the ruling families then. Yarrow handled the legal side of affairs, while Ubie kept the darker side of the streets in check. Unfortunate their power base was growing to fast for the comfort of some, and as such action was deemed necessary. It being well known that the Ubie family was very well connected as well as ruthless made them almost untouchable. As such, the apposing gang needed something subtle that they could apply pressure too. That came in the form of Mr. Ubies lover, a young bunny.
The stigma of intersperses breeding at an all time high, they kept their relationship a secret one, though not well hidden enough. Having made it clear that the Ubies were to back down from their move to control more territory, a plan was put into action. And late one night while his lover was working, she was confronted, and subsequently had her ears fed into a paper shredder. A warning to Mr. Ubie that he was not as untouchable as he thought. Paper Shredder
This led to Mr. Ubie becoming something far more ruthless, making a note to hunt down and kill those responsible in very graphic fashions. This later led to Mr. Ubie taking over as a business executive, running a criminal empire behind the face business and using his brothers connection in the ZPD to keep him appraised of the what the police were up to.
- Choosing to spare Amenii's life, he instead, set up an account and transferred funds to cover Amenii's medical bills. As, the hospital wanted to pull the plug on her, claiming that it was unlikely she would ever wake up.
Until the day she does.
End part two.
After waking up, Amenii has a lot to deal with, one her apartment is gone, due to not being awake to pay the rent, though Nera has saved most of her stuff. And upon waking up, she is confronted by ZPD who inform her she is undergoing investigation pending criminal charges and dishonorable discharge. It seems that Yarrow, taking the initiative has gone to whatever means to have Amenii removed from the ZPD. That had he has made it clear that made sure to know of her lesbian tendencies, and with a predator, a predator three times her size no less! The media, having painted Amenii in a rather bad light is charged and expected to appear in court to explain her actions.
It is only through the intervention of Mr. Ubie, who sending his lawyer, Mr. Black. Yes, you have met him. John Black
With his help, Amenii prepares, though his actions come off as both maddeningly irreverent, or down right crazy at times. Not limited to, kicking Amenii's wheel chair down the stairs, as so she has to wear the prosthetic legs from the hospital and hobble around on her crutches up and down the court house steps. Wearing her stumps raw trying to walk with the ill fitting leg sockets. Verbally assaulting her and reducing her to tears, and even faking a note from Nera saying that she is leaving her.
It is only near the end that Amenii finally finds out his end game, all tying back to the first question he asked her before he agreed to be her lawyer. 'How badly do you want to win?' Revealing that every action, no matter how cruel was nothing more than a game to him, a way to spin the social web of the media to ensure Amenii's victory and re-reinstatement in the ZPD. And, just as he arrived he departs.
End Part Three
Following her reinstatement Amenii begins looking around for evidence about her case, what happened, only to find that the whole thing has been swept aside and seemingly dismissed. Yarrow, refusing point blank to talk to her, is of no help. And as she begins to dig, she hits dead end after dead end. However, her memory is slowly beginning to come back in bits and flashes. Key words that cause her to remember something, a smell that causes her to shiver.
One night, while watching a late night movie, the Zootopia equivalent of I, Robot. Amenii dozes off on Nera's lap, the subsequent scene where Will Smith driving is attacked by killer robots, who after ceasing control of his vehicle inform him 'You are experiencing a car accident.' triggers a wash of memories that sends Amenii screaming into a frenzy.
Fueled by the memories, Amenii begins to remember more, following the steps back one Mr. Ubie. Upon Nera's insistance to involve the ZPD Nick and Judy are assigned to help in this case. Still reeling that Mr. Ubie, the Mr. Ubie who was there for her, offered her a job as a model part time following her unsatisfactory return to the ZPD, Ubie, who gave her her new legs, who she and Nera had lunch with, laughed with, and knew personally.
Further digging and investigation on Nick and Judy's part reveals that Ubie had a twin bother. Yarrow.
When the party goes to confront Ubie though, it is discovered that he has gone missing. Though a after some pressure is applied to his secretary, the same bunny who lost her ears, it is revealed that 'in house' drama is unfolding. In short, one of Ubie's underlings is making a power play and seeks to kill both Ubie and Yarrow, and anyone else who gets in their way.
The hunt ends in a dramatic show down between the mammal who cost Aemnii her legs, Nera, and Ubie in an ongoing construction sight. Nera, being buried under rubble, Amenii nearly drowned in concrete while Ubie wounded after being shot in the chest. The party is only saved by the intervention of Yarrow who accompanied by Nick and Judy are able to save the three of them. During the confusion though, Yarrow, by the books Yarrow, 'accidentally' looses his grip on the mammal that took Amenii's legs sending him plummeting to his death on the pavement below.
After much investigation, Ubie is cleared, though much with the help of his lawyer Mr. Black. Amenii, knowing her carrier as an officer for the ZPD is going to be stone walled, accepts Ubies offer to become a model, with a healthy paycheck to match her previous employer. Underbelly, remains open, and is kept out of the ZPD's official report, though it is strongly ensued that a re-evaluation of the club and its staff is in order. Nera and Amenii, are finally able to get on with their lives.
The End. for now.

Whoah. A lot to take in. Plus room for many other minor conflicts along with the major ones. I was going to have Gus start to create exo-skelotons that can be worn by a disabled mammal to help to walk or lift things without the use of prosthetics. That is the civilian version of it. The military and police version will be of course for armed conflict or controlling the peace.

I know, it took about an hour to get the short version together. Just imagine if I had tried to go into any detail, or god forbid the dialogue. D: Being one who thrives on conflict, as it makes the story more interesting, I would love to hear what you have in mind. Exo-skeltons, I like the idea, as it would help out a lot provided that they are not to clunky. After all prosthetic are mostly used by those who have lost a limb, rather than have them replace.
I can defiantly see the benefit of having one of these suits for police protection, as if you get shot, not only messes up your body, muscles, ext, it is also hyper expensive to recover from. In that regard, (Digs through piles of drawings on standby) I have a young bunny character, who, having lost her legs, more even then Amenii, but who looks up to Amenii as a possible roll model. She may be a good insertion point for this new bit of technology, as she is still quite young and open to the world.

Yes, that would be a good starting point for Gus. He plans to send a prototype for Zach’s use (the ZLS series) since the muscular dystrophy related to the brain tumour is starting to make the use of a wheelchair almost impossible. If you’ve seen those AI robots capable of doing backflips, then imagine an exoskeleton built with an AI and gyroscope so that the wearer can never fall or tip over.

ALas brain tumors are not fun, worst kind of tumor in my opinion. Though with the assist of a robot computer it would be amazing to see how far one's mobility could be restored. Given one first has to learn how to operate the system, but the idea of a mobile segway is something a lot of mammals would be interested in for sure.

So, I'm considering more of a exoskeletal suit to be worn and the wearer needs the use of their digits to make the suit operate. The AI will do most of the 'thinking'.
