‘Neeeeeeeeeeeerrrrraaaaa!’ The high pitched cry preceded the brown blur that flew past her and up the stairs so fast that the hyena had to snap her head around just to catch a glimpse of her lover vanishing into the upstairs bedroom. A short string of curses followed shortly there after to the sound of clothing being thrown to the floor in what Nera envisioned as a frantic search.
‘NeeeerrraaAAAH!’

Almost there, the bunny’s larger lover smiled, as she leaned against the barrister leading upstairs.

‘NEEERRA!’

The pitch teetered on panic, anger, and was ripe with a healthy serving of desperation bordering on fanaticism.

‘Yes, dear?’

‘Where are they!’ Amenii appeared at the top of the stairwell, her head appearing between the posts, ears flat and eyes narrowed. ‘Where did you hide them?’

‘Hide what?’ Nera favored the bunny with her best most toothy grin. This close she could already see the beads of perspiration beginning to form on Amenii’s brow, little gems reflecting the soft light of their new home. ‘Whatever are you going on about?’

Her hands were almost shaking, and probably would be if she had not been holding the posts in a grip hard enough to strangle an ox. Nera noted that even her little lover’s bunny claws where out and digging into the woodwork as well. She was on the verge of mentioning this when her lover’s patients expired and she vanished back into their shared bedroom to begin tearing the surroundings apart again.

A metallic bang flowed by several curses prompted Nera to call up to her nearly crazed partner. ‘Their not in there love, I promise you.’ Her smile growing ever larger as she imagined Amenii trying to pry the lock off the large steamer trunk that was tucked away in the back of their closet.

Taking another sip of her tea, Nera casually strode across the room, looking over their home, it had only been a week sense they had moved and she was still getting used to the spacious interior. Compared to the apartment they had wedged themselves into, this felt like a palace, a full kitchen, actual counter space, and even room for a small living space to entertain guests, of course there were drawbacks that came with such space, as her bunny was now discovering.

A quick scan of the room, much better suited for her size, something Amenii had pointed out when they had first looked into purchasing the place, and she had found what she was looking perched on the microwave. Nestled between the mail and to do list, she plucked three glossy slips of paper and smiled.

Tickets for three, round trip, and with todays date stamped in fine print besides an picture of an old steam engine, its smoke stack billowing up clouds of white to sweep behind the train itself.

Going home, well not her home, but her lovers. The thought both excited her and filled her with a strong sense of unease. Over the years she had been putting this meeting off as long as possible, and seeing how well the last visit had gone over, she was in no real rush to return. Well, maybe, if nothing else than to cause the old bat that was Amenii’s mother a few more gray hairs. Still, she ran her thumb over the third ticket, maybe if someone ran interference.

The through made her smile as she checked her watch, running late though and probably not helping Amenii’s blood pressure. Still, there was time enough. She checked her phone, well an hour anyways, and then there was travel time to the station so maybe twenty minutes really.

‘The uber will be here soon!’ Nera called up with a grin, fanning herself with the tickets as she set her cup down. ‘Have you found those tickets yet? We sort of need them, and their none refundable you know.’

A screeching wail came from the upstairs, half exasperation, and half despair before Amenii came thundering down the stairs, her hair mussed from her constant brushing of it. Slipping her hand behind her back, Nera leaned back on the counter top.

‘Any luck?’ she asked sweetly.

‘No!’ Amenii protested, looking around the kitchen in sharp jerks of her head as though the tickets in question may explode from a cupboard and try and attack her at a whim. ‘I told you we should have given them to Jack for safe keeping!’

‘Awe, but then he would have to hold onto them.’ Nera grinned down at her tiny lover. ‘Besides, how far could they have gone?’

‘Nera – if you know.’

‘Where they are?’ Nera’s teeth shone white as her grin spread up her cheeks. ‘You mean, these?’

Holding up the three slips of paper, she watched as her lover’s face when from shock, relief, realization, and then anger all in the flash of a second.

‘Nera! You mangy moth eaten hairball!’ she screamed flying across the room, only to trip over the strap of their duffle bag and go sprawling across the floor in a heap.

‘I see someone has been taking a few lessons from her mother.’ Nera cooed before reaching down and scooping the bunny into her arms. ‘There, there – no need to get so riled up.’

There will be plenty of time for that later, Nera mused, as she hugged Amenii to her chest, burying her deep between her breasts.

‘Gods, I can feel your heart beating in my arms!’

‘And who’s fault is that?’ Amenii spat back, her brows still knit, and her face locked in a scowl.

‘Awe, is the little bunny still angry?’ Nera gave her a squeeze, and brought a massive paw up to slowly begin stroking back Amenii’s ears. ‘Calm. Calm, we still have time.’

Though she didn’t respond, Nera could slowly feel the rapid fire pulse of Amenii’s heart begin to slow as she stroked her with the meat of her hand.

‘There now.’ The hyena smiled. ‘Now, all we need is our third.’
