Why are the best one’s always put out of reach? Amenii thought to herself, as she looked up at the rows of cards before her. The one she has spotted, that she knew Nera would appreciate the most was situated several feet above her head. And of course, there was no stools in sight.
Blowing out a sigh of frustration, she tried in vane to jump and grab it, unfortunately the angle of the shelves made this a tragically comical effort, leaving her on her rump and hoping no one saw.

Another look around revealed no helpful store assistants for this sort of thing.

Great.

A quick look to her left and right revealed she was alone, and gritting her teeth she grasped the first lip of the plastic card holders and began her assent up the plastic mountain. Toes finding purchase in the sides of the rack Amenii pulled herself up, trying not to dislodge any of the cards on her way up.

Several close calls later, her paw closed over a rather scandalous card with pink bows and some strategically well placed hearts over the covers occupant. Yes, this was perfect for Nera, now, all she needed to do was get down.

‘Excuse me – what are you doing?’ Came a booming voice, as the absent store assistant came around the corner.

Amenii froze. It was her first instinct.

The store associate’s gaze narrowed as he took in the sight of her clinging to card wrack like she was out of some mountain climber magazine.

To shocked to respond, Amenii’s grip slackened – and an instant later she was tumbling down to the floor sending cards flapping everywhere.

Prone on the cold floor, Amenii’s world was spinning, cards were everywhere, and the store associate was not looking down at her, his arms folded across his chest.

‘I’m sorry!’ Amenii protested, pushing herself up to her feet. ‘Here I – I can help.’

Holding up a hand for her to stop, the mammal just shook his head.

‘No, I have this. Just take your card –‘ He reached down, plucking the card she had selected from the pile. ‘And g-oh…’

Face burning a bright red, Amenii hastily snatched the card out of this stunned hands and fled down the aisle as fast as her legs could carry her.

Vowing she would not return to the store for at least four months, Amenii, made her way to the register.
