Description
A cold trickle ran down her back, the icy droplet weeping from the glass saturated her paper towel dress and through her fur causing her to shiver. The vibration echoed through the glass causing several more beading droplets to shiver and fall in rapped succession causing her to wince. For the first hour she had welcomed the relief the cold had brough her, pressing her back to the glasses surface as a means to ease the sore muscles beginning to knot along her spine. Later as her stitched together dress of bathroom tissue began to fall apart around her she had changed her mind. This would be the fifth one she would have to recreate, and already she could feel the wet tissue beginning to tear down her back.
Giving the drink another push, she felt the liquid within sway, rocking back and forth before settling. It was all a careful balancing act, to much pressure and she would tip the drink, to little and it would refuse to budge.
The debris before her did not help much either, discarded peanut shells, wadded napkins, and other drinks. Not to mention the grasping hands or occasional elbow of a patron who was a little to intoxicated to notice the micro panda pushing the drink across the bar.
‘Excuse me! Pardon! Coming though!’
She had practically worn her through raw in the first few hours just trying to get people to get out of the way, and was on the verge of kicking patrons arms until they got the picture, when one of the bartenders took pity on her. That pity taking the form of a small Christmas slay bell that he had fashioned onto the cord of a red ribbon and draped it around her neck like a necklace.
Surprisingly it had not taken long for patron’s ears to cue up to the tiny ‘ting tinging’ of the bell around her neck and move out of the way as she pushed yet another drink down the varnished chestnut bar. Small victories, Linda mused.
It had not been a particularly good night, though it was almost over, and she was just hoping to finish off her last hour here without any other incidents. The later it got, and the more people drank, the more hands on patrons tended to become. Stray hands suddenly grabbing her and lifting her off the table for a better look, though terrifying, was the least of those offenses.
She had already lost two dresses when someone thought it would be funny to drop her into their drink, despite having requested not too. The worst was when one of them had decided to try and swallow her whole, all to the roaring applause of the women’s friends, that had left Linda shaken and in need of a new dress. Not to mention another trip to the back sink for an impromptu shower with the hand soap from the bathroom.
Still, it was almost over, just one more hour and she could call it a night. Collect her tips, and get a ride home. That thought kept her going as she pushed with all her might, her tiered legs pumping as she pushed the drink across he wooden surface of the bar to its expected owner.
‘Your – hff – Drink is here.’
