You shivered, already feeling your nose going numb. It was 3:30 in the morning. And you still weren’t asleep. You groaned, rolling over in your bed for what had to have been the 20th time, before you gave up. Standing up, ignoring how your bones popped, you decided to walk around the house.

Getting past Sans’s room was easy. He could sleep through just about anything. It was Papyrus you were worried about. You knew he was asleep, but you also knew that he was the polar opposite of Sans. He was an extremely light sleeper. He would no doubt hear you if you made even the slightest noise-

And then you did. Of course. After gaining your footing, you blinked, trying to adjust to the darkness to see what tripped you. A sock. Sans’s, no doubt. You made a mental note to have a stern talking-to later, almost slipping again when you heard a soft voice.

“Human? Why are you awake? Is something wrong?”

You sighed, massaging your temples. It wasn’t that you didn’t like Papyrus, no you quite frankly loved him, but you never wanted to answer his innocent questions this late at night.

“I’m fine, Papyrus. I just can’t sleep, that’s all.”

Even though you could barely see his face, you knew by the silence that he was thinking of something.

“But… You always look so tired during the day. Don’t humans usually sleep when they’re tired? Why can’t you?”

Suppressing the urge to lie to him again, you decided to tell him the truth.

“I don’t know, Papy. Sometimes, I feel… energetic at night. I feel this tingling in my mind, and I can’t get comfortable… I guess something like insomnia.”

“Like Sans?”

“...yeah. Like Sans. And just like Sans, some nights are fine, but others… I just can’t.”

Another bout of silence.

“(Name). I don’t understand how this ‘insomnia’ works, but… can I help? Even a little bit?”

You wanted to cry. Papyrus really was too sweet sometimes.

“Well, I don’t know… I guess maybe some warm tea? With only a little sugar, of course. I don’t want to keep myself any more awake than I already am…”

“... Maybe…”

You couldn’t make out what he said, but before you could ask him, he took your hand and helped you down the stairs to the living room.

He gently pushed you down onto the couch, tossing a blanket over you.

“I’ll be right back. I want to try something.”

He walked to the kitchen.

After a while, he came back with a glass in his hands.

“Careful, it’s a little warm.”

Cautiously, you took it. You looked at the liquid inside. It looked like… Warm milk? Not wanting to disappoint Papyrus, you took a sip. Almost immediately, you felt a calming feeling move through you. After finishing the glass of milk, you put it on the table.

Papyrus sat next to you.

“Is there anything else you need?”

You tried to think of something. When you came to a conclusion, you felt a blush rise to your cheeks. You couldn’t ask him that! He wouldn’t think anything of it, of course, but it was still embarrassing! But then again, you were in a pretty desperate situation.

“Could we maybe… cuddle a bit? It might help…”

You felt Papyrus shift a bit next to you. At first you thought he might have been weirded out, but then you felt his arms tenderly pull you closer to him. You rested your head on his shoulder, while his arm wrapped around you.

“Is this good?”

“Yes, Papy. This is great, thank you.”

He gently rubbed your arm for a bit as you finally began to drift off. He must have sensed this, as you heard a small ‘goodnight’. Almost without thinking, you respond ‘goodnight, love you’.

You swore you heard a ‘love you too’ before you finally fell asleep.
