Description
this is the black 'n white version of my dad anyway I also increased the detail in this pic and added a bit more light. The detail was added so that the overall black 'n white would get a bit more grain like black and white imho should have.
anyway toodles

You did a fantastic job, it definitely has that film and darkroom feel to it. If you want to increase the grain even more, try taking shots at ISO 400 and shoot in black and white rather than desaturating it later. However, I really don't think this shot needs anything else done to it! The tonal range and expression are fantastic.

I can't shoot it in black and white . I've got a Canon 400D and it will always shoot in color.
Although the grain looks great at 400iso (even better at 1600 iso) the overall quality of the image will make a great downfall so I rather photoshop a grain effect or mess around with the picture but still have a high quality base that I can use to do whatever with.
Thank you for your comment.
Btw all edits to this picture are done in lightroom.

Very true, it's always good to have the higher quality original to work with in case the original idea doesn't have the impact you were hoping for. I'm still a film junkie so you know more about the technical aspects of digital than I do!
And you are very welcome! It's a very nice portrait all around

I honestly miss film... but in a way I've found that there are too many upsides to digital to ignore it or to not use it myself. But even so it's your own choice whether or not which media you use or prefer.
and you have a lot more options when you're pro processing in digital. Lightroom is like gods gift

oh, absolutely. I'm majoring in photography at the local community college and several film classes are required! Even so, I find myself scanning my prints and making adjustments to them. It's so much easier to dodge, burn, and spot in the digital realm!

I'm following a quick course photography. Almost all classes are digital except one and that's Technical Camera. =B

To be honest I'm not really 100% happy about this piece though... it still looks too digital. I wish I could've given it a more grainy look I have no idea to achieve that in a digital way unless throwing a filter on it with photoshop. But that doesn't look really good.

Bumping up the ISO tends to give things a grainy look(for digital standards), or it does with my camera Really not sure what you could do with it to achieve that effect other than the obvious photoshop sharpen or grain filter.

yes I know but then again it tends to fuck a few things up too . and if you use higher iso then you are almost forced to use black 'n white.
