The Uzi pistol was developed by Israel Military Industries (now Israel Weapon Industries). This weapon was aimed at civil customers and various security agencies. It was an attempt to capitalize on the success of the Uzi submachine gun. Basically it is a scaled-down Micro Uzi without shoulder stock. It fires in semi-automatic mode only. The Uzi pistol was introduced in 1984. Production ceased in 1993.
It is an open bolt, blowback operated pistol, chambered for the 9x19 mm Parabellum round.
This pistol is simple in design technology. It is made primarily from stamped sheet metal. Also it has relatively few mowing parts. It can be easily disassembled for maintenance and repairs. This weapon is lighter than the Micro Uzi SMG.
This weapon is heavy and bulky comparing with contemporary pistols. On the positive side this pistol generates less felt recoil due to its weight. Also this weapon has large magazine capacity. It uses 20-round magazines. In the mid 1980s most pistols had much lower magazine capacity. Furthermore it also accepts 25-, 32-, 40- and even 50-round capacity magazines of the Uzi submachine gun. Sometimes this weapon is referred as assault pistol due to its high magazine capacity. Magazine is housed in the pistol grip.
Cocking handle is located on the top. So the weapon can be cocked with either hand.
This pistol has a manual safety switch. There is also an automatic grip safety.
The Uzi pistol has simple iron sights.
