I'll never forget Sonic 2sday. I had just recently finished Sonic CD (I was one of the 6 people who actually bought the Sega CD) and Sonic was on top of the world. How could Sonic possibly be made any better? Then Sonic 2 came out. 2 decades of enjoyment followed.This was an easy choice for me. I knew Sonic 2 was going to be my Sonic-game representation in the calendar, and I knew either the Sky Chase or the Death Egg would be the setting for this piece. It went through many changes, including many Super Sonic renditions. I also contemplated doing the race against Metal Sonic from CD, but deviantART user 'bugball' pretty well nailed that one (seriously, check it out, incredible).

Ah now THIS is a classic level. The first time I witnessed the Death Egg... I was awestruck. And to see it like this in such a well painted image, and a digital one no less sparks a sense of nostalgia I haven't felt in ages. Thank you for taking the time to draw something you loved, and then sharing it with the rest of the DeviantArt commnuity.

I'm very happy to hear that this image sparks the same nostalgia in others that I felt while painting it it's nice to hear others share the same feelings as you about something you grew up loving. The Death Egg Zone really was the first epic, climactic gaming moment I remember experiencing, this big finish to this amazing game, and I feel if any moment depicts Sonic at the peak of his glory days, this has to be it. Glad you enjoyed it!

No doubt Sonic 2 and 3 brought my childhood together in one massive blue blur of action and adventure with the Death Egg being the most amazing final zones in all of Sonicdom. Now... I would like to draw your attention to this: [link]
