Description Were you ever a poet and didn’t know it? Or a poet who flaunted it? Did you ever read a scary story? Did you like it better than the happy ending? Many people approved more of Emily Dickinson and her cryptic texts over Henry Longfellow and his happy endings. Their popularity soared but their lives were drastic along with their words.

Longfellow and Dickinson’s messages of life and death soared through the sky in one point of time. Longfellow lived the life of a god. Everyone knew; they knew his work. Dickinson soared high after her death and her work is lifted upon the shoulders of many people. She didn’t live like a god but she sure as hell died like one.

Both poets started out as normal kids that lived in a house on a street, went to school and fell in love. But once their love vanished they parted onto different fronts. Longfellow embraced life and determined to live life to the fullest. He wrote to people , dragging them from their graves and into a world of light. Dickinson fell from the light,. She cared for no one but she determined to distance the world and die in silence undetected. Her cryptic writing shed a dark light on the souls of millions and shows them what lurks in their hearts, waiting for the dark.

In centuries of old, Longfellow was revered for his kind words. They were light and meant to make you fly with joy, loving the world like you never have. Dickinson’s words lay on the soul like a burning metal brand. Searing and opening a wound, letting the world know how dark the heart is. The two poets: Light and dark, yin and yang.

The two poets contrast like yin and yang but together they bring forth a new kind of life, the truth. Their popularity made them who they are today, together in a recorded history but their lives and words separated them like water and a canyon.
