Description 'Hey Red. We're not going to get away with this are we?'

Some fanart from the game Transistor.  Started out as a small sketch and turned into an experimentation with Gustav Klimt inspiration.  Hope ya'll enjoy.

Thank you!  This was a lot of fun to do and went from a nice simple portrait to something far more involved!  Glad you like it!

I love her expression, and also the way her hair flows.

Oi I'm from

My critique is divided into three sections, Color style and anatomy.

First is color, this looks freakin great. Not only does the piece appear to be almost a collage of media- but it's good to know everything is balanced, nothing is too overshadowed. I think my favorite part of the piece are those black fluorescent trees. Also the palette is kept to a minimum too, nothing in the piece makes the eyes bleed which is a nice present to come home to. I really don't have any negatives regarding the colors because the form you were trying to achieve is perfectly captured, that being a surrealist playground that doesn't really need to abide by preciseness. Shading is nice too, it's kept consistent throughout the whole piece even on the background elements that adds dimension it needs to feel like an environment.

Style. This style is wack, the good wack. Despite everything you're throwing at us everything seems relatively consistent. The girl really brings everything together because she uses most of the background colors in her own scheme adding a crack of sense to the bizarre amalgamation in the background. I like the translucent pixel looking things at the bottom too, however I could feel as if they could be a bit more,, random? It seems like they're just following a conformed path (unless that's what you were going for) But in my opinion I think the pixels would look better spread out more because of the fact that whenever I see a mass of pixels in the picture it just looks chaotic, and there's already a lot going on here so I already got a chaotic vibe from it.

In a surreal piece anatomy doesn't matter much, so because of that you get the anatomical studies pass for this part. At least your final score won't include much from this portion because the girl looks pretty good. Her proportions aren't exact but in a place like this it seems like that really needs to apply, if anything she's almost bending to the dynamic line of the background making this piece more pleasing to look at. However the one thing that bothers me is her neck muscle which appears to be coming directly from her sternum, it just needs to be curved more. Other than that good show.

Wow!  Nice comment!  Sorry it has taken me so long to reply; was out for a bit.  I really did enjoy the colors and that was pretty much the main focus.  I didn't want to do anything too detailed, but then I ended up really inspired by the Art Deco style of the game, as well as Gustav Klimt.  I'm not good at environments, so surrealist Klimt background was always the way to go.

I definitely wanted to go 'Wack' because...Well Klimt.  The pixels at the bottom were a bit of a last minute addition since I always wanted to bring in the 'assimilation' aspect of the game (where people and cities were being turned into pixels and blocks thanks to the programs).  I do agree that it the pixels should've been spread out instead of just gathered towards the bottom, but I did want it to look a bit like a pattern compared to the surreal background.  I feared it looked too random!  So interesting perspective there.  It was an interesting experiment.

I definitely agree with the anatomy issues.  I really needed to fix that eye and I agree with the neck too.  I have to practice more with the human form and hey, good art is about always practicing and improving .

Thanks again!

I LOVE THIS GAME!!! Red is an awesome protagonist... Extremely powerful and the relationship between her and the sword is magnificently well done IMO... Great looking deviation BTW

project of le comments!
hey so this piece is striking and stands out from a mile away with its gorgeous digitally saturated effects. your colour pallet is flawless and i adore your use of it!
i think the flowing effect of energy from the squares and green splotch things are really beautiful!
i do however think that the face is alittle strange, its not quite as fluid as i think you were aiming for for example the left eye is wonky. but this iint a huge problem. there really isnt much to critique on, it a really nice image and may i just point out...
THE HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL!!!
utterly gorgeous! love it!the way it flows feels wonderfully natural and is intriguing to look at. it goes well with its aptmospheric background and builds on the layering you have developed in the image.
like i said the colour and the use of it is probbably its biggest wow factor!
keep making art and keep this up with time the minor anatomy issues will fade and im sure this talent will truely blossom!
     stars for you!

The face is wonky; I really should've been careful with that eye.  I think I tried to adjust it without completely starting it from fresh when I should've just redrawn it.  Ah well.

But thank you so much for the lovely comment!  I'm glad that you like the color!  I really liked the strong blues and golds of the sword and wanted to bring that into the image.  Thank you for the encouragement!

That game and the songs. Great game. Good art, but you still have a long way to go. But So do we all.
Just keep on practicing and trying new things and you will get there.

The proportions on the face may be a little off, but the colouring and style are so interesting and pleasing - And that's what I love about the game anyway! Beautiful

I did realize looking at her eyes that one is a little lower than the other.  Thank you though for the lovely comment!  I really loved the games Art Deco aesthetic and I hope that with the Klimt-like details I brought that into here
