Description Okay, this is my first vector-based image. Although I think it looks quite okay I'm sure it sucks for the neutral/skilled vector-eye .

It looks kind of numb, if you happen to know why, please tell me. It might be the eye, but I don't know what to do next. If you do, please tell me.
I really want criticism. Give it to me, and give it hard! I want to improve!

Btw, the original file is this one .

Thanks!

I've recently started trying to put together some vectored art. It's tough. Largely, I find that it's so much more difficult to put the detail in than in raster graphics. As a relative newbie to another, I'd just say that every time you think to skip a detail in an outline - don't. The little details individually don't make much of an impression, but over the course of the work, they add up.

Good suggestion. I worked a bit again and this turned out.
No huge differences, but I like it better.

But I definitely found some fun in doing vector images and keep on practicing, I think.

Amusingly enough, i disagreed with the previous poster - I liked the more vibrant backgrounds. But that's just me. Can't please everyone all of the the time, eh?

Also, did you intend to remove the white of the eye? If so, why?

Yes, I got rid of the white. Because the rest of the face is not very detailed I thought the white eye is too much (in comparison to the rest). I'm not sure of this decision but I think it looks better.
I'll just have a try on a different image next time, can't see myself anymore

Oh, and about the background: the bright and saturated colors took away too much attention from the main subject. For me, the picture looks calmer now.

Fair enough. Keep going! The only way you'll get better is to keep doing it!

do some study on color comps and avoid vibrant colors, even when good images look like they have vibrant colors, its only in relation, most will be muted. treat the hair like the rest of the body, theres a shadow on the left of everything but the hair. why? why not put a shadow on the hair, it stands flat even in comparison. zoom in when you do the image too, avoid losing the shape to straight lines like you did in the eye. dont be afraid to take the time to actually make a complex shape like the hair in the original, cut out some negative shape draw the curls. essentially just put like 40x more time in to the image, and constantly delete and redo anything and everything until youre satisfied..

That's a good start, thank you very much!
