Description
I interpret this image as a beautiful zen-like contrast of order and chaos. The storm-looking shapes were made from a fractal which is itself a form of order in chaos. The grid seems to contain the chaos of the storm.I made this tile-able background for my youtube channel (look for ios_base). This was made using the Gimp (an open source photoshop equivalent).
How I made this:
Step 1: Generating a fractal and tweaked it.
1) Filters > Render > Fractal Explorer...
2) Selected the "Fractals" tab.
3) Selected a pre-made fractal.
4) Clicked "Apply"
5) Selected the "Parameters" tab.
6) Tweaked the settings by _very_ small amounts.
Step 2: Using the Whirl and Pinch filter.
1) Filters > Distorts > Whirl and Pinch...
2) Clicked "OK"
Step 3: Using the make seamless filter.
1) Filters > Map > Make Seamless
2) Clicked "OK"
Step 4: For the tile edges, I used the grid filter,
Filters > Render > Pattern > Grid
Then I used the filter again with x and y offset by one pixel, and changed the color of the second grid to a light grey. Finally, I set the second grid's overlay method to Multiply.
Thank you creators of Gimp.
