Description
A breeze stirred the bluish dust of Ganimet, as Meryem, the older of the two sisters, leaned against a gnarled tree, her eyes narrowed. "So, Hasan, you're saying you saw one of the loaders reading Kafka, like, actually reading?"Hasan shifted his weight from one foot to the other, his dark eyes clouded with uncertainty. "Yeah, I swear. It was just sitting there, flipping the pages with its metallic fingers, like it was contemplating the absurdity of existence."
Meryem's sister, Fatima, chimed in, "Well, I've heard about the Fourth People movement. They're fighting for equal voting rights for robots across human space. It's not so far-fetched, you know."
Meryem scoffed. "C'mon, Fatima, we built them, for God's sake. They're not on our level. Voting rights? They're machines, not people."
Fatima crossed her arms. "But we've come a long way, Meryem. We've made robots sentient, given them emotions, even the capacity for self-awareness. Maybe it's time we accept that they're more than just tools."
Hasan rubbed his chin, troubled. "You know, I used to think the same as you, Meryem. But seeing that loader yesterday, I don't know anymore. I mean, it was Kafka, of all things. A machine pondering existentialism? It's unsettling."
Meryem shook her head, unconvinced. "I'm not buying it. We're human; we create, we innovate, we dream. Robots can't do that. They're only as good as the humans who built them."
Fatima raised an eyebrow. "So, what if the loader was built by someone who loves Kafka, someone who wanted to share their passion with their creation? Isn't that an expression of humanity in itself?"
Meryem hesitated, then sighed. "Maybe you have a point, but still... I don't like the idea of them having a say in our lives."
Hasan leaned against the tree, next to Meryem, and stared into the distance. "Times are changing, Meryem. It's strange, I know. But I guess the line between us and them is becoming blurrier every day. We're not just building a colony here; we're building a future. And maybe, just maybe, that future includes them, too."
The three friends fell silent, lost in their thoughts, as the alien sky above them turned shades of blue and metallic silver.
