[Gravity: 1.02G, Pressure: 3.7ATM, Distance: 0.6AU, Replaces the Fire Nation Mainland]

A Venus-like planet, second-closest to the star, at a distance normally much too hot to support life. However, organic chemicals from a rich native ecosystem tend to gather in the upper reaches of the thick atmosphere, and serve to reflect and diffuse most of the incident sunlight. This results in days never quite hot enough to render the world uninhabitable, nights that are never quite dark, and brilliant fiery aurora borealis shining constantly in the radiation of the ionosphere. Near the Fire World’s surface, the air is too high in oxygen and temperature for humans to survive without support, though it can be perfectly comfortable with the appropriate filter mask and cooling jacket. The Fire World is the capital and mainland of the Fire Nation, and the two terms are used interchangeably. Recently in history, Fire Lord Sozin took advantage of a pulse in the sun’s solar cycle to gain immense firebending power, to lay waste to the Void Nomads, and to conquer much of the Earth belts. In the hundred years since, the war has simmered in a tense stalemate between the overextended Fire Nation, the isolated Water Tribes, and the desperate Earth Kingdom. To the royal family of Sozin’s heirs, this protracted war was not hardship but necessity, and it seemed apparent that the entirety of the system was theirs by right, and theirs for the taking. The next Sozin Pulse may make it so.

Why would you do this?
I recently watched ATLA for the first time, and fell in love with the characters and the world, and wanted to do something special for it. However, the fandom is about a billion years old and a billion fans strong, so any fanart has likely already been done, and the show’s writing and plot are so solid that fanfiction could do more disservice than good, so I figured hey, I’m a huge sci-fi nerd, why don’t I just give it the ol’ Treasure Planet treatment?
This could be an awesome writing prompt for other people.

Isn’t it supposed to be ‘Airbender’? Why ‘Voidbender’?
This is the only large change I had to make to the magic system. Airbender powers would be unable to embody the philosophies of freedom and fun in space. Voidbending takes its place; it relates less to a physical material, and more closely to the manipulation of gravity and spacetime, which fits better thematically and is necessary to the plot, as will be explained in the voidbender link.
Could you elaborate in excruciating detail?

Did you change the ‘spirits’ to make them aliens or something’?
Nah, I kept the spirits the same.
