Great tutorial! Also, looking at your "Abs are all shaped differently" section, I couldn't help but see an old guy's face in each and every one of them. So, alternatively, that section can be a tutorial on how to personify abs!

This is fascinating. I knew a lot of this stuff before, but I hadn't thought about it or seen it all grouped together and presented as a "how abs impact character design." I really like this and I feel all inspired and stuff now, thank you!

Wow, this is the first time I've seen the whole thing. Before now I'd only seen the "Form vs Function" section floating around tumblr.

.. I think that's the manliest statement I've heard all day.

This is the most beautiful thing I have seen ever.
THANK you! Now I'll understand how to draw a marine without over-exaggerating in a gift art. (A little something for my guy when he returns from boot camp.)

I think people should try to understand this and pass it on to other people everyone is different in there own unique way if we all looked the same the world would be a pretty boring ass place! I love the tutorial and the explanations of different body types! Cheers

Brilliant both as a drawing reference and as general commentary on "people look different and we should remember that"

while this is mostly true, you can't forget that bodybuilders, too, are legitimately strong people. franco columbu could lift cars and was italian amateur boxing champion, and competed in strongman competitions. arnold schwarzenegger competed in powerlifting.

I remembered this recently and had to look it up again. I started building my body in earnest last month, and I am seeing all sorts of definition and change in myself. This is the first time I have ever done anything like this, and this is a fantastic tutorial about the body. I look at this, and it helps me think about what I want out of my body (something in the middle, leaning towards power over form). The guide to different kinds of abs also covers something that no-one else seems to say, that there is no set way in which my body might look once it is defined, and that is exceptionally helpful for my mental well being.
Thanks, Coelasquid, from the bottom of my heart.

This is a beautiful guide. I always have issues with the abdominal muscles. And the books never really cover body types in relation to muscle build. Thanks!

Ho-lee COW this is useful as all get-out. I never draw super-defined torsos anyway, but this is GREAT for whenever I decide to or if I want my dudes to look more convincingly beefy.

Now I can not suck so much at drawing the beefs.

Thanks! I've been trying to draw some shirtless men lately but was a bit stymied by the abdomen.
