This is wonderful! Thank you!

I'd also love to see something like this on real female athletes-- ones with real substance. It's really hard to find muscle references for girls, and they don't quite follow the male form.

This is fantastic, thanks for this.

I am ashamed with all the cadaver handling I've done in my life that I never bothered to think of things this way.

Here's a secret: the definition, or lack thereof, of someone's muscles is NO INDICATION of their actual strength. Pecs, Biceps and Abs are especially misleading. Real strength lies in the Latissimus Dorsi and the Triceps.

The more you know!

depends on what it is you're actually doing. which is why you do different exercises and types of movements to work different muscle groups.

Bulk doesn't necessarily limit speed and flexibility. Olympic weightlifters have staggering levels of speed-strength and explosive power, and American football/rugby players are generally extremely quick on their feet. They might not be *acrobatic*, but they're plenty 'zippy'.

Nuance is a little hard to get across to an audience though, so I understand if you exaggerated for easier comprehension.

Thank you very much for this. I have been redrawing my old characters from two years ago and I've had trouble with their levels of physical fitness. Their torsos all looked the same due to my inexperience with the male body. I will take my newfound knowledge and become a better drawer of man torsos because of your amazing tutorial

Thank you so much! You are an absolute life saver!

I'm attempting a four+ piece drawing with only one female character and I absolutely bite at drawing decent males. Never mind making the different body types obvious for what I need.

Thank you again for this... I'll probably go through your "manbucket" for more help.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I was looking for a tutorial like this. I just recently took up drawing semi-naked people, before realising that I wasn't that good at drawing abs. Even when I looked up photos, I still didn't like how unnatural they looked (The "form" style), as the characters I draw tend to be more... Healthy. It just looked odd. But now that I've seen this, I feel a bit more confident about drawing shirtless men. You're excellent at explaining and teaching, and your vibrant sketches have educated me so much!

Again, THANK YOU. <3

Piles of crunches don't get you super-defined abs as much as starving the crap out of yourself does. Your farmer/theif/woodsman would have cut abs if they'd been through some 'lean' times.
