I'm new to this whole canvas thing, recently discovered this type of art and really opened my eyes! (Think it was the Heroes paintings (TV Series.))

This is actually a reclaimed canvas of mine. I have about 2 other paintings underneath it that have been gessoed over. So the textures are a result of many layers of oil paints and gesso. :-]
