Lovely lines indeed, but the coup de grรขceย is the horizon meeting the paint lines on the pillars. It creates a fascinating effect.

Exactly so, Grant! I think the pillars (and the surrounding architecture) were painted by local art students, commissoned by the town council. So, the trompe d'oeil effect of 'catching' the horizon line was an entirely deliberate act by the painter - and of course a perfect shoe-in for a surreal photograph! Although, while it seemed an easy gift of an image on the face of it, it took a good half an hour to fiddle about with tripod heights balanced with distance, and at the same time keeping an eye out for good sunlight at the precise moment that no humans happened to be strolling along the prom... Anyway, thanks for dropping by & leaving your comment

The 'simplest' images take a lot of work to make them look like that!

A very crisp capture, adroitly echoing the great Surrealist's geometry

this is great shot, but what amaze me most, is how you framed line of horizon with line of dark paint on concrete posts

High praise indeed, Shan! Mr Strand was an admirer of Giorgio de Chirico too, I think. Thanks for dropping by

I really like the way you alined the shadows on the pillars with the horizon.
