that white and red stripped string is called martenitsa and we put it on at the beginning of march as a health symbol.by we i mean we bulgarians, that's why it appeared weird to me, i guess it's just a coincidence

In Romania, it is called "martisor" [pretty similar to your "martenitsa"], we also put it on at the beginning of March, as a symbol of health, joy and rebirth.
