I don't get where this idea comes from rarely does it seem like artist get there start with r34. Maybe they get more comments, but they're usually easy ones with no substance.

Oh thereΒ΄s a ton of saucy/borderline nsfw artists out there who despite often being of a significantly lower level of art quality than many other sfw artists still dominate in pageviews, comments and watchers

that's a matter of attention due to the niche role it plays and the greater ability for it to catch someone's eye. It's the same reason fan art will often get more page views and favorites than original art.
Clop or not has little to do with people's view on quality really it's about marketability.
Also sorry about the guy raving at you, there's some truth just not exactly what's shown here.
