I absolutely hate rar. files.I can't tell you the number of times I went looking for something, such as a doujinshi or a set of photoshop brushes, or someone has uploaded something on a website I belong to and the download file is a rar. file.
And not only that but more often then not when I look for a download that's a zip all I find are rar. versions.
Now why exactly do I hate rar. files you might ask?
THEY NEVER OPEN! Not once have I been able to open a rar. file.
WinRAR or anything else that's suppose to open rar. files never work...unless rar. files are suppose to take days to open. I once decided I'd leave my computer on until the rar. file I wanted to open with WinRAR opened. I left WinRAR to open a file that had some photoshop brushes I wanted and even after THREE DAYS it wasn't open...and the file wasn't even that big!
I don't care if rar. files hold more stuff whats the point if you can't even GET to whats in the file?! I don't care if I have to download ten zip. folders instead of a single rar. file at least I'll be able to open the zip. folders!
And I'm not the only person who this has happened to. I've met plenty of people who either just can't get the rar. to open...or they manage to and its either extracted the wrong way or its protected by a password and the person who put the download up didn't post the passwords and the post is already old so you can't get in touch with the original poster of the download...I wouldn't know about either as I have yet to get to that point if any of the doujinshi I've come across that were in rar. were password locked.
Just today I saw these cute One Piece Shimeji (They are images of characters that walk around your computer screen and you can interact with them to a degree) and wanted to download the ones of Luffy and 2YL Zoro...and every single one of them even for the characters I didn't want were in rar. and rar. only as I looked for a zip. for them...its always something I really like...
If you ever send something to me as a download...PLEASE don't make it a rar. I can't open them no matter what I do or how much I fiddle with WinRAR or another program used to open rar. files they never open.

I love this so much xD I downloaded a few stages that were rar file, and after all the steps needed, when I try to download the stage in mmd, the folder is empty and I'm just so confused ... ._.

7-Zip is just easier to use so I'd recommend it if your having problems opening rar files. Its what I started using after driving myself nuts trying to open Doujinshi files that were saved as rar.

I do have that! I dont get it though o.o I save the rar file into a compressed zipped folder, I extract it, and I extract files. o.o

I hate 7z files and rar files. Gotta download extra software to open them. ZIP files can be opened by default windows. Everybody should save this shit in ZIP files. 7z files and RAR files are the man holding us down from the ocean of internet goodness. Straight up booty yo. Pizzeace.

Eh it depends on what rar. file for me,Since all my Touhou games are rar. flies I had to learn to extract them ;-;

My windows 7 pc will not even allow RAR files to open...for downloading...the spinner keeps spinning. too bad for the artists who create to share....no one can use them. I love an ice pattern photoshop brush set but there's no geting it to download, never mind open. So...it's not my computer or me. Who knew?

I hate rars so much when I look up some stuff for MMD I find one of the most beautiful models ever, and when I decide to download it it's a frickin' .rar file

I hate rars also because whenever i download them and i dont have WINRAR i have to convert them to zip files and its getting so annoying

I have RAR File Open Knife, it's fast and really simple. I haven't tried WinRAR though.

Jw, but have you checked to see if it's the latest version of WinRar as well? owo Not trying to like, be a jerk or anything but I know a few people who've had that problem as well >w<;

Yeah I checked that too and I had the latest version thinking that was the problem when I was trying to use it.

I dunno, just today I started using Shimenji and haven't found a problem. Are you using Universal Extractor?

I've tried using that. I once left winRar running to open a rar file I had for three days and it still hadn't opened and the file was very small.

I've never encountered any problem with rar-files before.
As for passwords, the only protected ones I've ever found downloadable were the ones that required you to send an SMS to retrieve the password mid-extraction. The sneaky devils.
